I'm talking STANK, I couldn't work it out, they were cleaned daily but would stink of stale p1ss 5 mins after the cleaner left! Girls toilets smelling like your stereotypical gents! The TV areas were quite small, with only 1 TV actually working properly I think. Also the video didn't work. The kitchen was a decent size with alright facilities and a good size dining area and lounge. Free internet use daily - half hour if you can book a spot and can be bothered... Free pasta each week - not half bad! Disabled facilities which is the first I've noticed in a hostel...

WE stayed at the friendly backpackers for 3 months and had a marvellous time. The staff were really helpful and were always happy to answer questions, hanging out at reception with the cool staff was like free entertainment at times, the hostel was clean and tidy and in comparison with most hostels this one stands above the rest. The activities that they run are designed to help people interact and this is great if your travelling alone. Can't recommend this place highly enough. If you don't like the friendly backpackers, then go stay in a hotel 'cause you obviously dont know what it means to be a backpacker.

Only meant to stay here for a few weeks but ended up here for 3 months. Location is superb and staff are fantastic. Decent sized rooms with individual reading lights so you don't have to wake up the entire room and there's a partition between each bunk so you don't wake up looking at each other. Also 1 double bed per room which is well worth hanging round for. Free breakfast if your up in time, free tea & coffee all day, free pasta once a week aswell as free 30 mins free internet per day if you book early enough. True the TV rooms are small but they are comfortable enough & the hostel has now installed a large screen down stairs for movies & big sport events. Runs a weekly pool comp & pub crawl with associated hostel (The Green House) on Wed & Thurs which is a great way to meet people particularly if travelling on own. Overall one of the best hostels that I have been to in my year in Oz .

i stayed the friendly backpacker hostel for 6 night. It's abit noisy at night where you can hear door banging. There is no heater in the room, cold at night, need 2 blanket. Job assistance not really they just put it in the notice board.

How can people stay here for 4 months? This is the hostel with the smallest TV room in the world! The basement is boring, with nothing to do, and no fun at all. The price is very high: 23 dollars a night! They advertise with free internet, but there is only one, which is very slow. Free Coffee and tea is alright and the location is in the middle of centre! That's maybe the only reason to go?

had the best time in oz here, mainly because so friendly, and staff helpful vis-a-vis tours and GOING OUT - pub crawl with sister hostel is excellent. safe, FREE INTERNET, tea/coffee. next to 7-11, spencer st station (where airport bus + trains adelaide/sydney come in).
