good location.ok facitilites.helpfull staffhowever, we paid $80 a night for a double room that had no windows and no source of natural light. it was pitch black.it could have been any time of day or night when we woke up.for the money we were paying i expected to at least have some sort of window in my room.

Greenhouse is located at one of the most convenient place ever. Almost everything is within walking distance. Clean toilet, room etc.The free internet (which is only for half an hour and you must book in advance)is horribly slow but you can always go to any of teh internet cafes around.

I stayed here for 4 nights in January. The location couldn't better, it's within walking distance of anything really. The rooms were nice and clean, as well as the building itself. Free internet was a nice perk, there was a free bbq one night, but the food was absolutley horrible. I didn't spend a lot of time at the hostel itself, it was just a place to sleep, but overall, a great place to stay.

I loved every minute of my stay here, from the people to the rooms, to the facilities. Its in a great location, has foxtel (just installing a large screen as I left!) free dinners on tues, clean rooms, free internet, cheap day trips and fantastic staff to top it off! I was crowned pancake queen for making pancakes for all us hungover people (I was one of them) on a sunday morn (which is also free to all)! In short its a great place, esp if you're travelling solo as the people you meet there are top class as is the hostel!

Yes, it's clean and tidy, but many places are. There is nothing wrong with the set up of the place, but we found it characterless and depressing. The fact our room had no window made us sleep late and grumpy in the mornings. Also, there is definately a premium paid for being in the centre. $80 a night for a double is a bit steep, we found cheaper and better accomodation further out of town. (The Stork Hotel was our choice!)

I haven't stayed in a lot of backpackers before but I found this one very good for its price! I agree that the dorms were huge & clean, the toilets & security were good as well! plus it's just minutes away from Flinders St station, very convenient if you're staying in Melbourne.

Stayed here for 5 nights and this is the best so far. There is always something going on, the rooms were huge and only 4 in each. Location is second to none 30 secs from Flinders St. station. Staff were incredibly helpful encouraging people to get involved in activities. I really couldn't fault it. The building looks less than 5 years old at a push and resembles a modern office building but still has character. Make sure you make this a stop in Melbourne you won't be disappointed!

I was extremely satisfied with my stay at the Greenhouse. I was there for about 10 days and had a private double bed with my girlfriend. The double room was really clean, and everything I expected. Maybe a little bed side table or something to put your alarm clock on would have been good.I couldn't fault anything in the whole place, the fridges and kitchen were really good. I was also happy with the free Internet access. Security was absolutely amazing. You had key card access to your rooms, and also key card access to the whole hostel after dark. I always felt like my belongings in the hostel were safe. The organising of pub nights and the like were also great.I also enjoyed the free pancakes on Sunday morning (great hangover food) and the free pasta!I will definitely be staying here again when I go back to Melbourne. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

You'll find everything you need at this hostel: excellent security, large kitchen, laundry facilities, huge lounge with lots of comfy couches, internet access (there are cheaper cafes all over the city), big bathrooms, and a perfect location close to everything. It's so big and busy but the dorms were actually very quiet. Mine had no windows which made everyone sleep until noon every day because it was so dark, almost cave-like. Each bunk has its own locker and reading lamp and the room was big enough not to trip over anyone's stuff. The staff were relatively nice and they do have a pack storage if you're leaving later in the day. Public transit and a grocery store are right down the street.

Stayed there Dec 5-7th and had a great time. Amazing security, very quiet despite its prime downtown location. One block from Flinders St Station and shopping districts. Keycard access after hours, and all the time for floors and rooms. Nice Tv Lounge with good selection of videos and good food prep and storage areas.Had a great time one night celebrating an English guys bday out on the town, definetly the place to stay in Melbourne. The bar downstairs is alright but w/o a backpacker scene.
