I would not recommend this hostel! The only good thing about the hostel is that it is fairly clean. The hostel is closed from 12 noon until 5pm (normal business hours), so you have to arrive either before or after that which is not convenient! They lock the door early in the evening and then don't answer the buzzer if you've been locked out! The also don't allow any alcohol on the premises even though they don't sell it themselves. The also don't allow use of the kitchen before 8am, so if you have to check out early, you don't get to eat!! When we wanted to extend our stay for one extra night they told us that they had sold our beds on us and that we would have to change rooms if we wanted to stay! Then we thought that we would find a different hostel all together because we thought the staff was so unfriendly, so we asked if we could store our luggage. They told us that we were only allowed to store our luggage until 12 noon, which was one hour away! They are definetly not understanding of backpackers needs!

I wish I had spent my first night in Australia somewhere else...to cut the story short, I found out upon arrival (right after midnight) that the "single room" I had previously booked online was a tiny ground-floor storage set up as a room just hours before my arrival.Needless to say, the room had no heating (the outside temperature was 7°c ...) and the bed linens were both thin (no blanket that night) & smelly.Next two things I wouldn't recommend the hostel for is the location- definitely not as central as they say (unless the proximity with the casino is what you're after...)- and the not so friendly manager.I know this may sound like a disaster, but you can have my word here...this place is one of the very few disappointing hostels I've known in years of travelling worldwide

great location, very clean, staff helpful and friendly plus they got me a job on the first day. 24 hour internet terminals useful. Made lots of friends so plenty of addresses for future travels. I can definitely recommend this place.

After reading the reviews we expected much better. We booked a double room over the phone only to find we had twin bunks on arrival. Their attitude was one of "if it's a problem, you don't have to stay here". The beds smelt although the bathrooms were very clean. The renovations are still a long way from finished over a year after the first review. The kitchen was small and there was no real atmosphere due to the amount of long termers. Close to the train station but quite a walk from the action. Not recommended.

This hostel was lovely. The rooms were clean and our twin had a mini fridge. The kitchen was modern but there was no oven. There were plenty of pots and pans etc so cooking was a breeze. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside was the bathrooms. The toilets were in with the showers so the floors were always wet. Location was good, about 10 mins walk into the main street and 5mins from the spencer st train station (airport shuttle). Overall a great place to stay.

A very quiet hostel, run by a nice British guy, and has the potential to become a great hostel when all is completed. The upstairs rooms are awaiting re-vamping,although are still good, however downstairs ones are very nice with wooden floors. The bathrooms are always kept clean, and a TV lounge with sky TV is provided. The only downside is the small kitchen area with no oven as yet - only 4 hobs and a microwave. More of a hostel where working backpackers stay, so enjoy the freedom whilst they're out! Nice to also see wheelchair access at the entrance.
