It was very nice place to relax. But you should wait 8:00 am to have breakfast and they serve only one hour AND the room is very small even it's a very huge building.

although quite far from the train station, this hostel which is very clean and modern is centrally located. its a converted church i think and the bells do get a bit annoying but after a few beers there quite soothing, it is quite expensive but worth it salzburg is a lovley place too.

This hostel is part of a church (burial place of Leopold Mozart), which adds a lot of character to the place. You've gotta love the random relics just lying around, like the 18th century holy water stand that is being used as an ash tray! The rooms are basic, but there is lots of hot water for shower! There are several kitchens and several more randomly located fridges and hot plates. You might end up using these, as breakfast really is quite frugal (roll and tea). For the social traveler, you can meet lots of people who know the area better than the average tourist, as the place is popular for student housing. The church bells have a notorious reputation, but I could hardly hear them from my room. More noise comes from the fact that the walls are paper-thin. Also, you can hear lots of people practicing music, which I found interesting but not might be for everyone.Do not miss the climb up Kapuzinburg, accessible from Linzbergstrasse. You will get a great view of the Altstadt.

If at all possible, stay here while in Salzburg!! It is extremely clean and nice with a perfect location within a two-minute walk (more or less) of all of the major central Salzburg sites and, yes, all of the bars (especially the Irish one, which is the best!)

Booked 1 day ahead and got a 3-bed room with ensuite - very spacious & comfortable. Church bells are a bit noisy but only positive comments for everything else - great location, reception lady was a bit strange but very helpful. Would definately stay here again.

Called up this hostel a day in advance and they didn't even ask for a credit card number. It was a fairly short walk from the main train station and it's proximity to the sights is great. There is a supermarket nearby where food and other things can be bought. Continental breakfast is included in the price. University students also live there and it's nice to hear a muted violin or other instrument playing at different times of the day. They have a smoking section per floor so you don't have the stench of smoke in the rooms. This was the cleanest and neatest hostel of the whole trip. The showers and WC are super clean and each bed is provided with a big locker - a backpack would fit. One key opens the main door and your room and you get another key for the locker. They charge a one-time fee for sheets but you could use your own. The view from the windows is amazing but the church bells might be annoying to some people - it just contributes to the atmosphere. I will definitely go back.

Institut St. Sebastian is definitely a quiet place except for the Church bells that woke me up every morning at 6am. Still, I enjoyed my stay at this _very_ clean hostel. The laundry facilities worked really well (this was the only place throughout a month long journey through Europe where I managed to get nice dry clothes!). You have to remember to make a 2-hour laundry appointment in order to take advantage of these good machines. I found one receptionist to be rather cold, but on the whole I felt quite comfortable at St. Sebastian's. The bunkbed room (for 2 people) that I stayed in was extremely small and cramped, but I didn't spend much time in my room for this to become a problem. The hostel is in a great area (walking distance to the big attractions, especially the Hohensalzburg Fortress, Residenz, and Mirabel Gartens). The kitchen was great (we borrowed dishes from the receptionist and were also able to get the loan of some fridge space). The showers were great once you got one... but the lineups were long (in my area anyway) because the main bathroom had a shower, two sinks, and a toilet. The other bathroom only had a toilet so everyone waited for the other washroom since they couldn't even wash their hands in the smaller one. The included breakfast was a good bonus.

I visited the ISS in Aug 2000. This is a gentle, VERY neat and clean, and actually quite beautiful hostel. It had an incredibly helpful staff (and I was supervising 17 high school and college students!) and was located near everything(1 block from a laundromat, long-walking distance from "the castle"). NOT for the wild or even mild partying crowd. Great for travlelers who like it serene and don't need to drink, party or "socialize." The breakfast was a bit thin, but the showers were fabulous!

Even if I had money I would not want to stay anywhere else in Salzburg. Clean, quiet, nice old fashoned professional staff, not a buch of wild kids running the place. They are not on the web but well worth the call. They are in the old section of town. All the tours will pick you up from the hostel with no extra charge.
