This hostel was OK. The best thing about it was how close it was to old town as well as the nightlife. The facilities were adequate. They screen the Sound of Music every night, if you're into that kind of stuff. It has a bit of an institutional feel to it, but there is no reason to spend much time in the hostel with so much so close by. A decent place to sleep.

This hostel is a short walk to the main part of Salzburg, which is handy. It's a big hostel, and has a bit of an institutional feel to it. I got lucky, and got a locker inside my dorm room, but others had lockers outside in the hall, and the lockers had flimsy keys, which is not so great. The bathrooms were okay, not spotless, but passable. The breakfast was awesome--lots to choose from! So overall, I'm not complaining, but I think if I make it to Salzburg again, I'd do some more research into other possible places to stay in this beautiful city!

The hostel is good. Watch out if you land early in Salzburg, for the hostel opens only at 7.00 AM. We arrived from Switzerland at 4.40 AM in November. Gets pretty cold, and you might have to share the railway waiting room with a couple of bums. The hostel is however very good. We had taken a four bed (family) room. Even though checkin was only at 1.30 PM, the staff allowed us in at 8 AM itself since there were no occupants the previous night. The room was nice, clean, spacious and best of all, come with their own shower and WC. The heater was a little bit slow in heating up though, and we felt cold for quite some time. Breakfast is ok. They also serve lunch/dinner with a veggie choice. If you are a veggie, this might be the only choice available in Salzburg. Staff were friendly, and if you are planning for organised trips around Salzburg, book through the youth hostel. They offer good deals, and also offer to pick you up from the hostel.

Nice hostel, but nothing special. Stayed in an 8 bed dorm room that was clean and relatively empty at the time. Bed was slightly dirty, but came with linens. Allegedly played The Sound of Music, but its on a television set in the lobby where people are eating and drinking and using the internet making for a not entirely pleasing viewing experience. The buffet breakfast was nice in that it was a buffet, but the culinary treats weren't anything special. The showers were clean, but cold and were more along the lines of a weak hose. Overall the place is comfortable and clean so that I would recommend it, but again nothing special.Oh P.S., the Sound of Music Tour is expensive and sucks like all get out. Booo Sound of Music Tour!

After coming from a wonderful hostel in Vienna, this hostel was a bit of a step down and had HUGE NUMBERS of little kids running around all night long. But the staff was helpful and once you figured out the way to get up to the bunk beds, there were clean sheets and a comfortable pillow waiting for you. They do play the movie the Sound of Music every night and you can buy cheap(er) tour tickets from the hostel and they will arrange transportation to the main tour. The location is great and within a two minute walk of the old town or one of the many buses to the train station or to Hellbrun castle.A word about the showers and the bathrooms... they are not as clean or and the water not as warm as they might be and get quite crowded in the morning. Shower in the afternoon if you can, and let the water run for a little while.

This is quite possibly the best hostel I've ever stayed in - it's very clean, almost sparkling (and that goes for the bedding too), the staff are helpful, it's easy to get to using public transport and you can walk to the centre of town in 10 mins. We booked a room for 2, but ended up in a 4 bed room with new furniture, plenty of storage, a toilet and shower room, table, chairs and even a balcony! The normal doubles and dorm rooms looked more utilitarian, but are still much better than average and scrubbed clean every day. Meals aren't amazing (that would be too good to be true), but breakfast is included and the school style dinner is a cheap and convenient option.I'll be back.

i've only stayed once (booked for second visit now) and i was impressed by the cleanliness of the hostel. the room i stayed in was like new, and to be honest, i'd not know it wasn't a more expensive hotel room if i'd closed my eyes through the reception area.the staff are helpful, speak european languages well, and there's a bar and internet area near reception.a good buffet breakfast which is taken in the breakfast room is included in the price you pay. bikes are available for daily hire, or by the hour, but are not of a good enough quality to recommend using them. the hostel is located within easy reach of the centre, and is usually booked in advance, so make sure you do the same. it's reached by using bus 5/55 or trams, so access from the airport is easy.i took a bike (from the hostel) into town, and biked my way around salzburg both by night and day, and i'd recommend you do the same too - its an inexpensive way of seeing the city, and so convenient if you dont mind using a bike. bikes must be secured when you are off sightseeing, so ensure you take a lock (all bikes come with them when you hire).
