A great location and a great price (especially for Vienna!), for starters. The staff were really, really friendly and helpful. The garden in the back is a great place to bring some drinks back from the supermarket and hang out if you don't want to pay ridiculous prices in town. Also, several decent budget-friendly restaurants just around the corner. Try the Turkish restaurant, I believe it's called Saho... I stayed in a 10 person dorm and found no problems with it. The lockers were of metal and seemed safe enough. Ok, one toilet and one shower shared by 2 dorm rooms is a bit of a problem in the mornings, but there are other facilities scattered throughout the building. They even let me hang out all evening and take a shower there when I had an overnight bus leaving at 9 pm! Oh, and they have a reasonably priced walking tour of the city that is worth checking out. I'd recommend this place for sure.

It sounds to me like it's all a bit unreliable. I booked a double, got a double and thought the staff were really friendly. The location isn't amazing but get a transport pass and you're fine. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't amazing, but I had no problems with the arrangements.

The court yard is a nice place to meet people. You can have dinner together there. There is a small kitchen where you can prepare your own meal which saves you some money. However you have to be patient because there may be many people want to cook at the same time. There are free lockers (with lock). Yes, you may have to wait for a shower and one of the shower is not hot enough.2 euro for 25 minutes using the Internet is a bit expensive to me.The hostel is clean. It is near the Westbanhof, some supermarkets and not very expensive restaurants.

This place is in a bit of a dodgy area, but the hostel is nice - a wicked garden area to sit and chat in. Bit of a wait for the showers, but overral a nice place not far from the centre

This hostel had a lot of charm and character I thought. It was well located, near the train station/subway. It's cute and cozy and fun. The staff was helpful (and hot). There was internet (for pay), a soda machine, breakfast (for pay) and laundry (pay). Laundry is a rare and cool thing to find inside a hostel. The showers were good, everything seemed clean enough. Free lockers in the rooms. No curfew. Cute little patio area. Sort of a quiet place. get reservations so you aren't put in an overflow place.

Basically if you go there, dont stay over in the overflow building , dont pay upfront as you may want to leave the next day , and make sure you phone a bizzilion times and ask for your OWN shower if you want a private room. They stuck us in a dodgy 4 bed room (cupboard)which you couldnt lock, along side a room with 10 beds and we all had to share a shower that was held together by clothes pegs , fell apart, and either scolded you or turned you to ice , and was located in the kitchen, (dont prepare salads in there). The area was full of muggers, and was shit all in all. But if your american ,and enjoy singing and destroying oasis songs at 3 am you may enjoy it.

Watch out for this place. I called a week ahead for a reservation. They even took my credit card #. When I got there all had left was a crowded, musty room, behind another room, with no window, in their "annex" with one bed left. I think they have a problem with greed and want to make more $$$ in summer. Had they just told me they really didn't have any good beds I would have put off Vienna for a few days instead of having it ruined for me. FYI- the word around is that the real place to stay is Wombats which is just around the corner. Oh, and the staff, while friendly, weren't particularly knowledgable. And I should know. I've worked in a hostel. My advice: Keep looking.

the ups are that it is very close to the train station, it has a cute outside area with picnic tables, is clean, and not expensive. Also, the owner is very friendly. The downs are - not enough showers. Some people complained that it's a long walk to the center of town - yes, but so are the other hostels (get the Vienna transport pass for 5 euro a day, you'll need to take trasport to get to the summer palace, some museums, etc, anyway). The breakfast is not worth whatever they wanted you to pay for it - just go to the small groc. store a block away. Also - if you dedide to do the Grape Grazing tour - it's fun, but it is also a bit of a scam, as the guys that do it do not pay the people that you sample the wine from (they ask you to chip in, or they just screw them over). This means that if you have a Eurorail pass, you can get there for free, pay like 14 Euro for a bike rental, and save the other 25 Euro for whatever. Also, the Restaurant Mozart right by the hostel is not bad (if you have to be in the area anyway to catch a train). Remember to ask the hostel for their discount coupons.Hope that helps.

Most of the rooms are normal hostel rooms but they have one room with 30 beds. I guess that's why it was so cheap. The kitchen is tiny, the showers are okay and the garden is nice. At check out time there were a dozen people waiting to see if we'd be able to get rooms. I think we all did. It's very close to the train station, about a 20-30 minute walk to the centre of town. There's a small grocery store nearby but not much else for food or entertainment in the area.
