this hostel was cool. i met a lot of people in kitchen and in the group room downstairs. there was an outside courtyard too. it is a bit out of the ring but not so far that it is a bad walk. the internet was cheap, the food was good and i got lots of help with what to see etc. the rooms were a good size and the showers were clean and had good water pressure. i would recommend this to first timers and others because you meet so many people traveling around and it is a good hostel. the people at the desk were friendly too.

5 minute walk from west bahnhof is good, but west bahnhof is NOT quite central. must walk for 20 minutes or so to get to the ring. and the room is small, not mention to the dorm. 5 people must share less than 10 m2 space. well, if you like crowds, then this is the place, otherwise, better spend more euro to get a bigger room. i wouldnt recommend this hostel.

Great atmosphere in the cozy common room. The rooms are clean and the place has laundry facilities. Only down side is the kitchen is tiny, but it was better than not having one at all (Wombats doesn't have a kitchen).

After the previous reviews we decided to stay at Ruthensteiner. We were placed in the extra building a street back from the main one, but this turned out to be better. We were in a room of 4 beds and shared a kitchen and shower with another room of 8 beds - very good odds. The shower was IN the kitchen with only a sheet hanging from the roof to shield you as you dress/undress, but otherwise good. The only fridge available was at the other building, and it was in the very small kitchen that the whole building had to use. The second building also has a nice outdoor area and has a 'call-back' payphone so you can tell your parents to call you back, plus washing and drying machines and clothes racks for drying outside if it is warm.

Ok if you like to walk rather then catch public transport places then this is a bit of a hike from the action (unless u like shopping cause its close to the shopping street). There is a tram stop really near by though. The 30 bed outback (a shed only open in summer) is dead cheap and comfortable. The garden is a good meeting place and there is a little kitchen for cooking (only 2 people fit in there at once). It is close to the train station so u dont have to carry your backpack far which is always good. They have guide books u can look at if u dont know what u want to do in Vienna.

It is true, the garden is not accessible 24 hours, but there is internet access, kitchen provision, laundry provision, friendly staff, you can order breakfast if you have arrived too late to stock up from the supermarket and are starving :0)IF you book early enough you can have a choice of single room handy if you're shy ;0)It is cheeper if you pay with cash rather than credit card. The owners have guitars to loan the guests that want to play some music in the common room. There are plenty of guide books to look through. I like the place, but there is a three day maximum stay then you have to re-register.It is most definitely what I call value for money AND close to the centre and the central station :0)

The hostel is easy to find and there are a few trams running just outside the hostel. The place is clean and quiet. The beds are already made when you arrived and they even provide you with a personal locker in the room for you which is big enuf for luggage or backpack. They also have a kitchen which is convenient if you cook and there is a supermarket across the street as well as a bakery around the corner.

The area itself is safe, left the hostel about 5 am in the morning to catch an early train and there was nothing to worry about going out to the streets so early.

this is a good hostel, with really good facilities, friendly staff and the comfiest beds in the whole of europe! it's an easy walk into central vienna, and just round the corner from the main station.

1 star for being close to the city......but I found it to be a little boring and the porter was quite rude at times you could not go in the garden after 10 which sucked. All in all I really would not recommend it if you are looking for somewhere to party, but hey some people like it quiet
