CHAB is good value for your money. I paid 9 euro for a bed in a room of 8 people, including breakfast.

The beds and the rooms are reasonably spacious, clean and have a washbasin with mirror. Breakfast is until 9 o'clock (bit early) and exists out of 1 cup of orange juice, 1 bowl of cornflakes, coffee/tea/hot chocolate/milk, white and brown bread, 1 cheddar cheese and jam.

The staff is friendly and the hostel has got a GREAT bar, very good atmosphere, good music and is very cheap (for instance, coca cola/juice 0,75 euro, wine 1,50 euro)

The showers are not thát great. Could have been a lot worse though. The cabins are small, with no place to hang up your clothes (so you have to pile it up on a kind of shelf thing or hang it over your door). To get water you have to push a knob every minute and this is a bit annoying. The showers are not extremely clean, but clean enough for a youth hostel. The waterpower is good and the temperature is ok.

The location is also not thát great. It is a 30 min. walk to the grand place. You can take the subway, but you have to transfer so it is not very fast either to get to the centre. If you want to stay late in a disco or whatever you should take a taxi back to the youth hostel; this only costs about 7 euro

During the day, you can get a daypass for all public transport for 3,60 euro. This is a very good deal(!) Then you can also take a tram or bus back to the hostel.

Conclusion: This is a pretty good deal. I'm pretty sure everybody will have a good time here.

I enjoyed my stay in an 8-bedded room at CHAB. Specifically, I liked the garden area but because my room was right on it the noise was a bit much when I was trying to fall asleep. The bathrooms upstairs were very clean (my travel partner said the ones downstairs were "ok"). The price was great compared to other hostels, and the service was friendly. As for the location, I walked from the hostel to Brussels' Grand Place and back... it was a hike but a wonderful way to see the city. Transportation from the Midi train station to the hostel was quite simple - just one subway.

I liked the chab. The bathrooms left something to be desired though. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were generally friendly.

I stayed in CHAB V.Gogh hostel this August and have to say it was very nice. They have kitchen (BUT NO UTILITIES, just very basic), nice backyard, good breakfast, locker room (with cameras, but bring lock). In general it was great place, they need to work on the bathrooms though - it looks like it's WW2 there.

And yes, in that part of time there is something you can actually do. It's about 3 minutes from Botanique Park and it's very beautiful there. Go there, relax, read a book, enjoy being a backpacker! Cheers

The rooms and security is good in this hostel, price is reasonable. However I find the bathrooms in the basement terribly stinking maybe becos of the sewerage. Generally my impression of Brussels is that the place is quite dirty and streets are not clean up regularly so I must say the standard of the hostel is quite good.

This is a great hostel, the rooms are nice & clean, the bathroom is great and there is a great bar and a garden too, it may be in the dead part of the town but the city centre is aprox. 10 minute walk from hostel... VISIT VAN GOGH HOSTEL !!!

Not a bad place to stay, if a bit out of city centre in a pretty dead part of town. Clean and efficient. Bathrooms are okay and they give you breakfast, though they stop serving at 9am.
