I stayed here 1 night over Easter and it was not a pleasent experience. The room I stayed in attached to another one so there were constantly people walking through the room. Not very safe in my opinion. To get to the showers you had to walk through the bar thne the kitchen then outside and up a bunch of stairs. Showers are coed and not much privacy, and loked as if they had not been cleaned in a long time. I wouldn't recommend this hostel to anyone.

This place was far from nice - I am giving it one star only because it is not far from the centre of town but other than that it SUCKS! I stayed in over 20 hostels in Europe and this one was by far the worst. The sheets, that I had to pay for, had huge holes in them and we were given 1 wool blanket and in october that does not keep you warm. To get to the shower we had to walk through another dorm room (because our room was essentially the closet off of another dorm room), go down a flight of stairs, walk through the bar, then walk through the kitchen and then walk outside (only about 8ft) and then up a flight of stairs to the showers. The showers then had a pull cord that you had to hold down to keep the water running and they were far from clean. All in all this hostel was BAD and I would not recommend it for anyone, if you are looking for a place to crash then okay but otherwise I would avoid it at all costs, it is cheap and I guess I got what I paid for! Brugge is beautiful and worth going to though

Sure, some of the dorms are crammed, and you have to walk through rooms to get to the back rooms..but it's close to the center Markt, 5-10 minutes walk, on a pretty street. It has a kitchen and fridge and is next door to a butcher, across the street from a supermarket. Also has a nice bar with 25 belgian beers at by far the cheapest bar prices in town. At 1 euro per half hour, the internet is also the cheapest in town.

Get a bicycle there, too. 5 euros per whole day, and you've got the whole town and surrounding area to explore. It's less than an hour to the beach and also to the Netherlands border town Sluis, and there are countless paths with nice small towns, endless farmlands, castles, churches, etc.

Staff was extremely helpful, extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable. The beds were comfortable and everything is clean. Drawbacks are that you have to pay an extra 2 euros for linens (which I didn't need- I'm happy with the vinyl knowing it's been cleaned), and that you have to walk out of the dorms and through the bar, kitchen, and courtyard to use the shower.

But at 11 euro per night, and as easy as they made it to enjoy Brugge, I have no problem with giving 5 stars. Drink lots of beer, and ladies try the Geueze.

The hostel has a bar where you can get really cheap beer which tastes pretty good. It has a kitchen and two tables in a small backyard. The dormettory room we stayed at was big and had many beds in it. Guys and chicks sleep in the same room (I just hope for you nobody is snorring because there was one guy...... anyway nobody got any sleep.....). They offer you a free city tour which is really nice, ecspecialy the guy who leads it. Overall the hostel is okay.

This hostel is well located and the staff are friendly... they even provide a free walking tour!! There is a great bar area with cheap drinks, a small kitchen and some basic seating outside.

The dorm I slept in contained 10 beds but it was also the only entry to another dorm (containing 6 beds). Linen was not included in room charge and the mattresses had a plastic cover (yuck). I found the stairs up to the dorms a bit scary (rickety and rather like climbing up to a tree house).

The bathrooms were basic but clean, however to reach them you had to go downstairs, through the bar, the kitchen and the garden and up another set of stairs - a bit like camping!!

Overall pretty good considering the cost!!

Location fine, but then Bruges is a small place, friendly staff too. Large bar area, outdoor area too. Many cheap Belgian beers & cool music altho the bar closed a little too early for my liking at midnight. I stayed in 6 bed dorm which was fine, bigger beds than expected and bunks nicely spaced apart. There's many lockers so security isn't a problem however they could do with better bathroom arrangements - more showers needed. Still, one of the better hostels I have stayed in.

Things I loved: The bar, the free tour (we had a tour guide who was not the usual man, but a very interesting university student filling in), the location, the kind atmosphere, the helpful staff...

Things I did not like: the breakfast (took me a day to figure out how to get it), the stairs

A basic hostel in a great location but the staff are really disorganised, ie no-one showed up to open for breakfast one morning, and the BBQ that was supposed to happen at 8pm arrived closer to midnight. The rooms are fine, though the bathrooms could use a good clean. The bonus is the laidback atmosphere and being close to everything, and its cheap. You get what you pay for.

i would like to comment on other reviews and add some 'insiders' info :)ive stayed in hostels that were like hotels, met no one, and was bored. i stayed here, and when i first walked in i decided i needed to move the next day. but, this place *totally* grew on me. i stayed two weeks overall, and missed it and brugge like crazy when i left. a reviewer mentioned one shower, there is a whole room of rarely used showers above the kitchen. the main bathroom is dirty because your charming fellow hostellers trash it, not because no one cleans it. the rooms are full, but its almost impossible not to meet your 'bunkies'!:) id rather have a plastic mattress considering all the people that sleep on them and do god knows what else on them (ive stayed in alot of hostels, its not always a pretty sight). i had a sleeping bag, and used the blanket to cover the mattress, and was warm and happy. screw the breakfast, just eat belgian strawberry pancakes and cider at the little place down the street for US$3, or buy stuff at the market. when in benelux always look for 'spaghetti bolognese' at a restaraunt, its hearty, filling and the cheapest thing on the menu (~US$3 for a huge bowl). theres a brill candy shop a few steps away, a grocery, and a butcher. theres a fab irish pub on the corner going down to the markt, when you see the old well, its right on that corner. dark and smoky and candle lit, and they make a mean irish coffee!the bus from the station runs literally to the hostel door, the bus stop is actually called 'snuffel'. there is a little sandwich shop called 'pickles' as you head down to the markt. the guy that runs it is a laugh, and they have good food and yummy ice cream. i felt super safe at the hostel, and walking around the old town, even at night. the hostel kitchen is small but cozy and cooking there with the other hostellers is def the best part of the day, along with the chill pub on the first floor where the drinks are often dirt cheap. if you like to be pampered, stay somewhere else. if you want to have a good time, make freinds, sleep cheap, drink cheap, and cook dinner and drink wine with ten people youve never seen before, but are friends with by the end of the evening, this is the place.

My friend and I stayed in the dorms here, and they did seem to try to squeeze as many beds as they could into the room. The other reviewers were right, the room did get cold (I guess we weren't the only ones to snatch blankets from empty beds!) and the bathrooms weren't the greatest. The showers were the kind where you have to keep pushing a button to keep it from turning itself off and the hot water ran out when I was in the middle!

I'm making it sound horrible, when it really wasn't. The people who worked there were really friendly and laid back. Yes, the place was a little shabby, but in a cozy sort of way. It's in a nice location and we had a really good time there. I'd definately go back!
