BUG Review
This hostel is crap. It is in need of desperate maintenance and suffers from noise from the road outside. However it has a convenient location and makes a good base in an otherwise expensive city. It is located about a 5 minute walk from the train station, just one block from Trg Kralja Tomislava. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the bus station.
Price
Dorm bed 95-105 kuna (85-95 kuna HI/HFHS)
Double room 260-338 kuna (240-318 kuna HI/HFHS)
Prices are in Croatian kuna and are inclusive of all taxes.

Just read the reviews and go there.I did like this and it was really funny. The hostel is really disgusting. But sure so many people prefered to stay there because location is very good.As you read in the reviews finding the unfriendly receptionist there in the hostel, was really like a joke! I used this hostel for sleeping one night. So I didn't have so much problem. Also you will find lots of reviews in the toilet doors of hostel:)

I think, since the last reviews have been written, the hostel has improved. At least there were signs everywhere: "Keep your door closed all times, especially at night." At this time of the year, the hostel was almost empty, so there were no problems with the showers or the toilets, but I guess 3 showers per floor is not enough in peak season. The furniture is old, but OK, the staff speaks english, and one receptionist was even friendly. The walls are thin and the windows don't block noise, so ask for a room facing the yard. And yes, it's about 5 minutes from the train station, and 10 minutes from the Jelasic square so you can save on transport. Prices (we saw): 6 bedded room: 78 kunas/bed; 3 bedded room: 88 kunas/bed; double with bathroom: 226 kunas; double without bathroom: 304 kunas + tax (7 kunas/person). But you certainly have to be careful (and keep your door closed).

I agree with the general opinion but having moved out (to somewhere a lot more expensive) they were just as rude and unsmiling. I think it's part of Croat culture.

I spent two nights here, and it was an ok place to sleep. The sheets were clean and water in the shower was warm (the showers looked pretty bad, though, so wear sandals there). The reception wasn't that friendly, but not really rude either.

Only stay here if you have an early bus/train and need to be central. This is the only hostel in the centre of town, but it is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. As mentioned by others, ugly prison-like rooms, rude and unfriendly staff, insecure luggage storage. Stay here if you absolutely have to, but spend the mimimum amount of time in the hostel itself!

The best thing I can say about this hostel is that it was so dark when I checked in (and out) that I probably didnt see the worst of it. I wont get into the whole discussion as to whether or not there were refugees there, but there were definitely people who had been living there for well over a year. It was musty, stinky, dirty, creepy, and unfriendly. Lots of people (mostly men) gathered in the stairwell and it made me uncomfortable to walk up to my room because they would yell at me and grab out to me. I took a shower and still felt dirty after sleeping on their sheets for one night and there was gunk all over the bathroom floors. I slept in my clothes because I was leery of the stains on my sheet. And the staff werent exactly the friendliest of bunch either. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Ravnice.
