Welll, what can I say...We arrived at this hostel and managed to score a small twin-share room on our first night so this was quite good. However, we were immediately a little sus when at a very strange hour of the morning a non-English speaking "cleaning lady" with a key opened the door and came in... The spooked appearance on her face told the real story as I asked her to leave in a language anyone could understand! I later found out that backpack theft isn't unusual at this hostel, so be wary. The hostel itself has good internet facilities and the bar is functional but pretty basic, although it was about to be renovated from my understanding.The Rooms at the Arena Hostel are crowded and hot and bathroom facilities are basic but functional if not clean and whilst clean linen is provided, this won't stop you getting bitten by the bed bugs if you get unlucky like some of the people in our busabout group did.Getting into town is easy by the metro which is a few minutes walk away from the hostel and there is also an ATM at the station which is handy. Foodwise, there is a good selection and seek out alternatives as Prague is cheap. The stadium near the hostel (a short walk away) has a restaurant which serves excellent meals.I think the best option to make your stay in this wonderful city so much more enjoyable is to book a hotel close to the centre unless you are on the tightest of budgets. Remember, Prague is cheap so splurging here doesn't cost the earth!

Having read what other people have said about this hostel we fully agree!We'll do the few good points first: It's near to the metro and the cave bar downstairs had quite a good atmosphere. Food was nice but expensive.Now for the bad ones: On the first night one of us got savagly bitten by what we thought was a mosquito. However, once they'd turned septic and started tracking along veins we enquired with a doctor who said they looked like spider bites. They were still there and bruised after 2 weeks. We went to bed (having locked our dorm door) on the second night with our padlocked rucksacks right under our bunks which were in the far corner of the room. We woke up the next morning to find them gone and our door unlocked. Suddenly the hostel staff could no longer speak english and had no idea where there were any police stations (the nearest was 200 metres and clearly marked!!). We weren't the only ones that night who were stolen from and it was either members of a busabout tour or the staff!! You have to buzz in to get into the hostel but you don't go past reception and so they have no idea who they are letting in.The toilets and showers aren't spectacular but they're functional. However you have nowhere to put your clothes or money belt whilst you're showering.We only stayed 2 nights and in that time at least 3 bags were stolen that we know of and to the staff it seemed like an everyday occurance!If you do stay sleep with all your stuff on you and take your own bed sheets and insect repellant - even in winter!

i've been to plenty of hostels in my time and in this trip (even a good number in prague) and i know a trap when i see it. they are charging for everything that is offered as a service on top of being already expensive for being so far from the centre. public transport is not expensive but it adds complications to your fun. also immediately got a bad vibe when i walked in. the staff seemed to be in a dreamland of their own and the manager who was present looked like she was into torturing her employees. the breakfast at 90 kc isn't worth it - you can go out for a much better and cheaper breakfast. other places include it.judging by the previous reviews, internet was free but it's now 30kc/30 min but there is always a line and you must use 30 or 60 min. by the way, the price we got charge was in fact 390kc and not the advertised price. if you are looking to make your stay at prague much less enjoyable, i highly recommend this place. cheerio

We arrived at the hostel to be told that there had been a booking mix up and we were being sent somewhere else. Perhaps stupidly we thought this would be ok as the hostel had arranged it, when in fact it was a total hole. We returned to Arena to ask to be put somewhere else. After waiting for two hours they found us somewhere else to stay, this was marginally better but miles away from town, did not seem to be very safe and was full of what we thought were probably men who had been thrown out by their wives. We decided to stay to as it was getting late, but the next night booked into a hotel. On our final night Arena offered us a free stay but this was all a bit late since all the moving around had already gone a long way towards ruining our time in Prague. We don't understand why they didn't realise there had been a mix up and let us know beforehand, we would have been better off just arriving and finding our own accommodation. They also refused to pay for any more expensive accommodation, but then later gave us a free night's stay, it seemed like whoever was in charge hadn't known about the situation. As for the hostel itself, it was okay, but not really worth all the hassle!

I stayed at arena hostel for 4 days this past summer and overall I had a great time. I stayed in a large dorm room called the "oaisis" I think maybe 15 beds. The room was clean, as was the bathroom and shower. The hostel is close to the train station, but not very close to town. One other poster said an hour walk to the charles bridge, but I would say closer to a half hour walk, but either way, the subway is very close and also very cheap, so it's no big deal. Arena hostel also offers free internet which is very nice, although sometimes tough to get on. There is plenty of inexpensive resturants in the area that have quite good food and the bar at the hostel is pretty inexpensive as well and has satellite TV which was nice. There is no lockout at this hostel which is nice if you plan on spending the night out....There is also a kitchen, which although small is good enough if you want to make your own meals. The hostel does seem to cater mostly to brits and aussies for some reason as I was the only american in my 15 bed room.....but really this is not a big deal as brits and aussies are great fun to hang out with...overall, I would definitely recommend arena to anyone staying in prague unless you really need to be close to the sights

well i will first of all say that my first thoughts of the areana hostel were wow clean tidy good internet and after being offerd a job and free accom i was really happythen 3 hours later when i realised that one of the staff had stolen all my money and bank cards i was'nt all that pleased so i called the manager explained what had happend so his answer was to order me out of his hostelon the basis that he thought i was a drug addictwhen questioning him on the reason that he thought i was an "addict" his reply was "well you have been working at the flying pig down town" i mean what a load of******* anyway all i can say is thank you to the clown and bard for having a heart and letting me stay there for free untill i could hitch out of there and to the station hostel koln thank you toi will be back to visit the later of the hostels and to the arena all i can say is karma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
