This was the last hostel we stayed in during our four months of backpacking and apparently we didn't save the best for last. We chose this place because of the location and the kitchen. While the location was very good the kitchen left a lot to be desired. You had to sign out your utensils from reception and there are limited facilities considering this place has about 100 rooms. One of the 2 fridges was broken and the other was filthy and smelly. The room was nice but there are simply not enough toilets and showers available. Finding one free between 8 and 10 am (when you have to check out) was almost impossible. In fact almost half the toilets on some floors were "Out of Order". And to top it all off the staff was not terribly friendly or helpful. That said, for the most part the place was very clean but overall the experience was very disappointing and terribly overpriced.

I stayed here 1 night and was very disappointed. The rooms are small, with no air conditioning, with small beds that were very uncomfortable, and the bathroom was the tiniest I'd ever seen. You can't turn around in this closet of a bathroom. The floors were always wet. There were no paper towels. I used toilet paper to dry my hands. The location is so-so. It is near Hyde Park and Notting Hill area. This isn't terrible, but forget walking to alll the main sights in London. In a nutshell, pick something else. The staff wasn't that great.

First hostel I ever stayed at, and thought would never stay at a hostel ever again! After three months of travelling in Europe and staying at other hostels, I have to say that this hostel was the worst of my experience! Small, filthy rooms, bathrooms smaller than a linen closet w/ no TP, cold shower. Staff were always too busy but were friendly when they finally get to you. Nonetheless, I wish I would have picked a different hostel. Overall, it truly needs a major overhaul.

The Leinster Inn is a good, clean, friendly hostel, our four night stay was quite good apart from one or two things, including the fact that reception always seemed to be busy, the staff were friendly enough but there were never enough of them. The electric sockets in the room didn't work (but i considered this a trivial thing) and the lack of elevators was a shame.

However, the room was warm and comfortable, everything was clean, and the hostel was a few minutes walk from 2 tube stations. It wasn't exactly 5 star stuff but with a location like that, who cares.

Although one of the reviewers did not seem to like it, I had a great time. The hostel was really clean and the people were friendly. It's a nice part of london and close to Hyde Park. I think maybe some people still don't know how to travel and stay in hostels ... what can you say to them ... but stay in a hotel next time buddy.

The place was the cheapest I found in London and definately worth a go!

Thanks.

Rooms were clean, as was linen. Staff are multi-lingual and incredibly helpful, crowd is young and really diverse. Had easy access to other parts of London and in great neighbourhood with heaps of transport and eating options. Hostel breakfast left a lot to be desired but as rates are so low you dont really mind. Pitfall- no elevators & massive stairwells in a tall old terrace- try to get a room on lower levels of the building and you'll have a great stay.

Terrible Place - nasty and dirty, July 25, 2001

This hostel was absolutely nasty. I don't care what other reviews said - but it did not compare to any other hostel that I had stayed in all of Europe. The sheets were stained, the showers had broken latches and were just absolutely nasty. The hallways were filthy and the carpets were patched with duct tape. The morning breakfast was throwing sheap food at a bunch of hungry dogs - e.g. cheap bread thrown in a big bucket, coffee in broken bugs, not enough milk for cereal all in an overcrowded cafeteria. The staff was rude - and to top it all I found out 3 days later that I had been double-charged for my 3 night stay on my credit card although I had payed for everything in cash when I was there! When I called, they harassed me about producing credit card bills and payment receipts. All this time and phone money lost on THEIR mistake. Definitely don't stay here if you want to enjoy a beautiful city like London!

The Leinster is an awesome experience. The staff is bubbly and friendly and your nights are definitely safe at the bar/club, which goes off till very very late (according to British standards, of course). The location is also perfect, as Kensington Gdns and Portobello Rd. are both just some 5 minutes away, which allows you a few moments of peace and quiet whenever you feel you've got too much of the london madness.
