the people there were very friendly and helpful.

most of the guests i met were working in london and staying there for a long period of time.

for a clean room this is a good place but since everyone there lives there, its not the best place to meet travellers.

I stayed at the Badger for a couple of months and have just moved out. I absolutely loved the Badger - it was clean, secure, comfortable and fun. The staff were lovely and any problems I had, they tried to sort out. I knew the person who wrote Beware of the Badger and the whole story was not told. Security was tight and many a time, the staff would ask non guests to leave at 10.30pm (which was the cut off time for non guests). One member of staff lived close by and did random checks after 10.30pm.

All the rooms are being done up and the Badger is getting better by the week.

My only criticism of the Badger would be that many of the long term guests thought that they owned the place and had no respect for other guests, however many of these people have left and when I left, there was a great crowd of people staying.

Please give the Badger a try and make up your own mind about it. I loved it here and so have many others.

Three weeks ago I would have recommended this hostel without a doubt. The people were friendly and the facilities, fridges and bathrooms, although cramped were of an acceptable standard. However, I would not under any circumstances recommend this hostel to any person wishing to stay in the Earls Court area. With Kamikaze staff and an unreasonable management who change written rules to suit their needs, my Badger experience turned into a nightmare overnight. There is unabated favoritism between staff members and certain guests, resulting in illegal acts being affording only a warning and trivial acts resulting in immediate and nonnegotiable eviction.

My travel partner and I stayed in two different double rooms, the first was cramped with unstable bunks and cupboards, the second was damp and drafty with windowsills covered in cigarette butts left as they were. On numerous occasions our lockable rooms (for which only we had keys) were left open or were actually latched to stay open after cleaning. On one occasion our bottom floor window had been propped open with a can of fly spray for reasons unknown and unexplained.

The door to this hostel was left wide open at several times of the night and day allowing any person to enter and wander around; with room doors left open, anyone was free to roam inside. Staff members at the reception did not challenge people walking in and no ID was requested of guests coming and going.

Staff members where on numerous occasions uncaring and rude and responded defensively when challenged about any of the above issues. Rules for staying at the Badger where changed upon the whim of staff members and any queries re these where met with disdain.

I highly recommend that you do not stay at the Balmy Badger for the above reasons, however if you choose to do so, please be aware that any of the above may occur at any time and without warning.

The Barmy Badger was easily the best hostel that I stayed in during my time away. It was easy to find coming straight in from Heathrow. The neighbourhood was great, I felt safe at all times. It wasn't a problem to walk up to Tesco's, but a smaller Sainsbury's is right on the corner. The rooms were great and had lots of space. The only thing I would change in the rooms is the lack of fitted sheets, but it was only a minor worry. The kitchen was easily accessible, and had plenty of muesli for breakfast, with toast as well which was nice. The showers were fantastic, the best hostel showers I had. The people were really friendly, and I had a great time. I'll definately be back.

I stayed at the Badger in July and have just returned after touring Europe. I cannot believe the change in the place - it is fabulous.

All the renovations are finished and as a consequence it is much roomier. The smallest dorms are 6 person and most of the dorms have personal lockers, big enough to store your bags and clothes and there is more floor space. (the management have said that they are in the process of putting lockers in all the dorms). The bathrooms are luxurious with hot water all day long. A lot of the long term people from July have left and the new crowd are a lot friendlier. The kitchen has been re-stocked with cutlery, bowls and plates. I would definitely recommend staying here as you will be safe, it is very, very clean and a fun place to be!

I was here in July, 2002. I really did not enjoy my stay here, but to be fair that was because there were some very unfriendly, loud, and generally rude people staying there longterm during my stay. The hostel is currently undergoing renevations so it is a bit choatic, but I think it will be terrific once it is all done. The kitchen is clean, if understocked in terms of plates, bowls, and cups. The bathroom I shared was very nice, new and clean (a welcome change from many hostels). The rooms are very crowed which does cause difficulties of where to put your stuff. Especially since many of the people staying there are living there and have naturally spread their stuff out. Breakfast is basic, but adequate. The price is good, nice neighbourhood, close to subway and grocery store. With fun, friendly people here, it would have been great.

after staying at a dodgy hostel south of london what a welcome relief to come to a hostel with such friendly and hospitable owners such as ken and liz. the majority of customers are aussies which is understandable being in earls court.

during my stay the only real inconvenience was the continual work on the bathrooms etc.

but the party atmosphere and the homely feel to the place more than make up for any minor shortcomings.

definately stay at the badger if u come to london

Wasn't at all impressed with the Barmy Badger. The rooms are literally bursting with beds, so there is NO place to move or put your stuff. Has no security, though to be fair it has a safe feel about it. They were busy doing up some of the bathrooms while I was there, but we found we had to line up to get a shower. Not particularly clean either.

As a hostel, perfectly ok: clean, breafast included, perfectly clean bathroom attached to our six bed dorm (even if the the hot water was a bit dodge). It was handy to the tube, a 24hr supermarket and all the takeaway food variety you could wish for.

Negatives - well, I'm really a bit old and fat to be climbing into a creaky bunk without a ladder - the risk was all to the poor unfortunate down below!

Oh, and they lost my email booking - lucky I rang to check the day before we left for London . . .

as an older couple(50's) we found the Badger an extremely friendly & secure place to stay. Ken & Liz were amazingly helpful and run a clean and tidy establishment. We found the Badger central to great shopping & entertainment areas and so close to the Tube.
