i had stayed in the hostel for a few months. yes, i was one of the 'disconnected longtermers,' if you choose to call me that.

the hostel is not a dump, its just not worth the £70 a week. its about location, right? take it or lose it.

and its about atmosphere. its the freedom to smoke a joint or have a drink and not having to care about someone coming over to stomp out your fun.

i say the hostel is good for smoking ganja and meeting travellers without sticks shoved up their asses, which speaks a lot for travellers in london after reading the reviews on this page. the reason you didn't like the hostel is because of this. :)

Patrick, the guy who owns O'Callaghans is known in the area as the guy who wont replace blankets or fix the heat when its broke in his hostels. Avoid at all costs. In 2001 he had a 6 month infestation in all of his hostels that he tried to solve by moving people around his hostels and in turn infested them all.

Avoid avoid avoid unless you want to end up like his longtermers

Yes, well it was an experiece. DO you self a favour, look the word s**t hole in any good dictionary and there just might be a photo of this place. When I was there last year there was an inforcement notice regarding over crowding... Try Central London ....Earl's Court is full of Aussies.

HORRIBLE SERVICE, September 16, 2002

A friend and I made a reservation for a double room online for this hostel. When we arrived after a *very* tiring 12 hour plane flight, we found that they had "overbooked" and "could not host us." The sent us to a "sister hostel" which was horrible beyond belief. The rooms were all shut up and foggy with smoke. It reeked with a smell that I really do not wish to know the origin of. People were dealing drugs there. The rooms were dirty, my pillow was wet when I arrived, and the showers and toilets were grimy and broken down.

Of course we didn't get the double room we had reserved either. We were told on our return trip that if we got to the hostel by 12 noon we could have a double room. Surprise, when we got there at 12 they had given our room away because they "didn't know we were coming back."

We decided not to stay and lost our deposit on the room because there were no refunds (even though they had given our room away), but in the end, I'm grateful we didn't stay there again.

Avoid this hostel at all costs!

Could not believe there was such a greassy hole of a place still operating in London. The whole joint should be condemned. Rough as guts does not even get close. If you are setting foot in there take a gas mask and preferably protective clothing in case you come into contact with anything. God it sucked!

Believe it or not, someone actually recommended this place to me, so I didn't take my usual precaution of looking at the rooms first. Where to begin. The place has obviously not been cleaned at all for years. My dorm room was full of flies and there were crumbs and rotten fruit all over the floor. There is one filthy toilet for the whole place and the showers are in the middle of the hallway with no place to change. The shower and toilet area reek of urine. The manager allows people to smoke anything they want in the hallways (there is no common area) so all of the rooms smell like stale smoke.

When I discussed these issues with the manager, he basically laughed in my face and (of course) would not give a refund.

Sleep on a park bench before you stay at this place!

We stayed here just one night ! and thats because we had no where else to go ! I don't think the place has ever been cleaned ! you are cleaner before you have a shower !! dont go here. We are off to find a new hostel in West London.
