Stayed here for 2 nights ! and I have read some of the reviews of others on the site. It seems St Christohers have gone and sorted out some of the complants by adding lockers for luggage. Breakfast is now served in the bar upstairs which is nice. And added a chill out room with a cinema which is free. we were also taken on a walk with a guy called Rodger for free around London, which was interesting. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I will be back ! On my way to the Bath one now.

Your best bet is to party or go sightseeing til you drop. A bus stop (for all buses, even the night ones) is just ten meters down the road, and there is a Sainsbury's store across the road, with, yes, nighttime deliveries. We couldn't sleep at all the first night, but from the second night on we were so beat that we just slept! We were in the dorm room just above the street and we were told that the only rooms that are not noisy are the 4-bed rooms, which are more expensive. The staff were friendly, but those swipe cards just kept on getting de-magnetized, which was quite annoying (they fix that at the reception). The only tv they had was mtv with christina aguilera and belushi-commercials. the 'film' nights obviously consisted of marilyn manson documentaries over and over again. We loved the karaoke nights on wednesday, though! (better still in edinburgh) It's nice that there's sth happening downstairs so you don't have to party in the center all the time and figure out ways to catch the right night buses (tube stops at 24.00), and the cheap drinks are okay;), but there may be some occasional yelling outside on a Friday night. The internet costs 1pound per 20 minutes, so public libraries are a much better bet (free internet). We met some nice people, and stayed in London quite cheap (check their own website when booking, no fee, it was also half cheaper than booking through the phone, but this may change). I liked the toast and didn't mind cueing a bit, but it was hell for my friend. If you're noise-sensitive and don't like toast with jam _every day_ go somewhere else.

I stayed here for 2 nights in July 2003. It was much more commercial than another hostel I stayed at prior but they had very good and accurate information. Stayed in a 14 bed mixed dorm room, which is situated directly in front of Borough street. I must say that after staying in a number of hostels all over Europe, this sticks out as the one with the noisiest, loudest morning ever.Around 5am, look forward to hearing garbage trucks, construction work, cars, scooters, shops opening, and doors slamming. It was the worst mornings I had ever encountered that the hostel could not do anything about. If I were to retrun, I would def. ask for a room that faces opposite that of Borough street. Breakfast was moderate, if you come an hour before breakfast is over, you have to search for clean cups and silverware.

I stayed in this hostel for one night in May 2003 when I went to London for two days with some friends. We had a mixed dorm for 14 people which was very comfortable, nice and clean, although no reading lights so we had to put on the main room light when we came in around 11 and people were already asleep. No ensuite in our room, but a fairly well equipped unisex bathroom (2 toilets, 2 showers and 4 sinks) was just outside the door. You get a little swipe card to open the door to the whole dorm block and also your room, although when we were there there were no safes nor luggage storage facilities. The receptionist said we could leave stuff below the stairs as it was monitored but as we only had an overnight bag we didn't risk it and just left it in the room. We had our evening meal in the bar, it was fulfilling and cheap, but took nearly an hour to arrive! The bar staff weren't the most helpful. Breakfast was worse - queuing up in the morning in the dark basement (it had one little bulb which lit up about one table) for a slice of bread to toast, and tea from a hot water machine which seemed to be permanently empty was not so good. However, the hostels location is really convenient, and it's fairly cheap so I'd recommend it. I think the receptionist said they were about to fit lockers but it just hadn't been done when we were there.

Well this was my very first hostel i'd ever stayed in, and it was almost what i expected. the breakfast was my biggest problem. you had to go down to the basement, queue in line for four pieces of bread, toasting them was optional, and all you had was a choice of hot water based drinks. Not big on tea so i didnt' try some, but the coffee was just disgusting. plus the basement stunk of spilt alcohol or somethign along those lines, couldn't stand it. the bar was fairly lively, but the bar people aren't that nice, they wouldn't let us sit down, or go out in the balcony to have a drink. The staff at reception was mixed, either seem to be thinking they are so much better than you, or really helpful such as the blonde american girl, who told us where to go to celebrate my birthday. On a couple nights of the week they play movies, never the actual one they say though, and whether its on a big screen or on a little tv must depend on how lazy they feel that day. our room was at the very top, but it had big windows and the bathrooms weren't bad, except sometimes the water was cold. but we met some dope australians in our room, but i think they separate the genders

You wouldnt want to leave a hostel where you could relax overlooking London in a HOT TUB, then party all night? I had a great time at St. Christopher's Village, and it was close to everything that I went to see in London, I just had to walk. The BBQs were sweet and the bar was rocking every night (from what I remember). The other reviews on here arent too recent since when I checked in they had a huge luggage store room and the breakfast had music, a big screen TV, unlimited toast and a full menu. Plus if youre there on a Friday, they did a cool walk around London and we took a boat along the river out to Greenwich, the leader was one tattooed up dude but a whole lot of fun. Stay there, that's all I really have to say, you'll have a great time and meet some new people if you can, otherwise there's no point in travelling.

I'd been there for 9 nights from late March to early April this year. What I found is that the place is more commercial and less funny than I expected, though it's a good place to meet other people from all over the world. For the lowlights, I think the staff there are not quite enthusiastic, especially those arranging the breakfast in the basement - and so the breakfast is not at all enjoyable: you have to queue for toasting 2 slices of bread (they request each people can only take 2 slices at one time) with tea, coffee and milk available. Comparatively the staff at the reception are nicer and more helpful. Another bad thing is that they don't have a luggage room, so I had to put my bag under the stairs in the basement before I checked-in at 2pm. They claimed they've got a CCTV over there, but the basement is opened to all and it's especially crowded during breakfast, so it's not at all a safe place for storing luggages. Luckily I didn't lost anything.Otherwise the place is a relatively safe place to stay-in. Keycards are used for opening both the door of your own room and the main door to all rooms. The room itself is simple but clean, the showers are abundant and quite good, but the main draw is that you can have a better chance to meet different people from different places. I think it's the hostel's reputation which attracts people to come and stay there. For me, I had met a few Australians, 3 French and 2 sisters from the US to name a few - most of them are my roommates. I even visited the Portobello Market with my Aust friends!!! The place is not as good as I thought; but I think I would stay there again if I go to London in the future!

This was my first time to London so i havent seen any other hostels, but this one is definately a good one. The post below is very misleading. He must have been in the other building.. The building i was in had a huge common area, tv, stereo system, smoking, and drinking. The rooms are clean, co-ed showers, and bathrooms with some private ones scattered about. The sauna did not work, and the hottub never got hot after 3 hours.. Maybe better in the summertime.. Would definately stay here again.. Best thing about the place is there are no rules.. you can bring people back, stay in others rooms, and drink anywhere.

I stayed at St Chris's Easter 2002. I have no experience with other London hostels, so perhaps everything else is even worse, but my St. Christopher experience was definitely mixed. The location is pretty good: great proximity to the Southbank area (mintutes' walk to Tate museum, Shakespeare's Globe, St Paul's) a safe neighbourhood, but it's mostly an area of offices, so the streets are pretty quiet when the workday ends (nowhere in the neighbourhood to "hang out" besides the noisy bars/pubs) even the nearest Starbucks is closed by suppertime! This is significant because the Inn itself also has no area to hang out. One of the cool things about hostelling is meeting other travellers -that won't happen here because there's no common area (like a lounge/ kitchen/ TV area). (**You do have access to the basement lounge in the other location a block away, but when I was there, it was strewn with garbage, 4 of the 6 light bulbs were missing, and didn't feel safe -even for me, a 6-ft tall guy!).TAKE NOTE: they won't let you check into your room until 2 pm (not even to drop off luggage). They'll offer to let you store your bags under the steps in the basement (with the assurance that there's a security camera on). DON'T leave your stuff here! Someone stole my bag containing everything I had bought on my trip! They advertise a hot tub, but the week I was there, it was closed all 4 nights I tried to use it!On the weekends it is EXTREMELY noisy at night. There is a dance club in the basement, and even in my room three floors up, the music was too loud to sleep. Will I stay here again? Possibly, because the area is now familiar to me, and the location is great, but I'll certainly check out my other options first, and now I'd know what to expect. I'd probably look into the location down the block, without the dance club in it. Regarding food, don't get you hopes up for the "breakfast" included; you get a muffin, an orange and a yogurt. That's it. It's true that guests get a discount at the adjoining restaurant, but that's still higher prices than I paid for any meal my entire trip!

rooms were clean and i even found a shower that didnt have the dreaded push button timer.staff were friendly and helpful, internet and laundry way too expensive a good way to increase your income i guess, the bar belushis discounts for residents but they have started chicks drink for free nights and there were fights over chicks by the local lads. so yeah they need to get their priorities right there, local watering hole or safe haven for travellers.
