I stayed at the Victoria for a few days in September last year (2002), and had a blast! (big up to Amy, Jess, Eddy, Peeka and co.) Aside from everything being very clean and secure, the staff were great... super friendly. This year I headed over to Europe again for a month. I set aside a full week to spend in London, and made a bee-line to the Victoria when I arrived. Maybe it was naieve of me to expect a hostel to be exactly the same a year down the track, especially because staff in hostels do tend to change quite often (many being travelers too), but it just wasn't nearly as good as my first experience- so I only stayed 3 days.It wasn't dirty, but it didn't have that same shine as the time before. The staff weren't rude, but they weren't exactly friendly either. The atmosphere was completely different, (yeah, different people, different vibe- I know), but it didn't measure up to the first time I was there.I'm planning my trip to the EU for next year, and for sure I will stay at the Victoria- maybe not for a week, but who knows? next time it will probably be all different again!

I stayed here for 4 weeks. They put all the guests in the same room to avoid cleaning so you ended up with half the rooms packed and the other half empty. The dining room and the lounge room are combined so you always get smoke while your eating. I found the staff unprofessional. They messed up my payments and buzzed in anybody. A weekend would be ok but for any type of long term I would look elsewhere.

first off dont bother coming from victoria station....i assume of course that you will have a day pass on the underground so just hop on the U and go to pimlico station....it makes your walk much easier....once you get off a at pimlico find the church spire and walk towards it...make a right at the traffic lights and the hostel will be on your right about a 2 minute walk....the place needs some better music in the lounge area but that may just be my personal opinion...hardcore rap isnt very relaxing. The crowd was nice....it was nice to have a gender mixed room....girls dont snore and smell better! The b-fast was a roll and not very appetizing at that. But despite all that I would come back again.

It is a nice hostel, well located in Victoria, only 10 min from the Coach and train station. Clean and with nice kitchen, but they don´t have a place for you to relax. Very noisy dinning room, but with SKY avaliable and movies. Drawback: they don´t have stairs, so if you are in the top floor... it could be annoying to go up and down all the time. Overall, a nice hostel, specially because of the location.

This place is certainly worth its high ratings. It is clean, reasonably comfortable (bed a bit hard !), and in a good location, only a short walk from either the Bus or Train Station in Victoria. For a one night stay after a 27 hour journey from Budapest on the bus, it was ideal for me. The only drawback was having to climb 5 flights of stairs after said journey, but in fairness you only do this one time, and its easier on the way down. Other facilities seemed good, but I was only there for a short time, I'd certainly stay there again on a stop over, not sure it would be what I was looking for longer term. The main thing is that it was quiet. The area, as others have said, is quite dead. I got a good night's sleep and breakfast which is all I was looking for.

a cheerful place, the Astor Victoria was quite clean & comfortable. good & plentiful breakfast, HOT showers (a little too hot for summer, but lower floor's shower were cooler), good amount of cubby space in rooms for your stuff.the showers were very tiny & closetlike, but after the first time you became used to it w/no problems. very clean & 100% privacy, so who cares about small?friendly staff over-all, and pretty good location. about 1/2mile or so to Victoria Station, so easy to get around from. not too much more of a walk to Buckingham Palace & St. Jame's Park.definitely worth going back to again.

I stayed at Astor's Victoria hostel for six nights in May 2003. Very nice place, close to a lot of attractions. Despite being in the big city, I felt quite secure, as every room has a key which also opens the front door. The large dorm I stayed in the first night was rather noisy, but the 5-bed dorm I spend the other nights in was quiet and comfortable. All rooms have a sink and a mirror, and there are plenty of washrooms and showers. Staff were pleasant. Cereal and buns provided for breakfast (included in cost). My only complaints are the small kitchen and the lack of ladders on the bunkbeds, which mean you're in danger of getting stepped on if you're sleeping on the bottom bunk. Also, the lounge area is pretty small and a bit cramped at times.

If you like to walk you can consider this hostel within walking distance of a lot of attractions. There is a good breakfast in the mornings that is included. The price is great, especially for central London. There are a few good restaurants in the area but if you are looking to go really budget there is a grocery store within a few blocks walk. The place is clean and my room had a cool balcony overlooking the street. I would probably stay here again on my next trip to London.

as soon as i checked into astor's victoria, i got a good feeling about it. it looked newly renovated but not sterile. i stayed in one of the 6 room dorms and it was pretty spacious and got lots of air and light. they do a good job of keeping it clean. also when i was there in early may, it was not yet very busy. the neighborhood is a hotel ghetto but quiet. only a few cheap eats nearby but there are shops in the neighborhood. also the sitting room/smoking area near the reception is well set up for meeting people. not too big as to feel distant from the other folks sitting there but not claustrophobic either. the breakfast leaves something to be desired but there is a kitchen available. one hint as far as alcohol goes. the beers sold behind the counter are a little pricey (especially after coming from belgium). try one of the night shops off belgrave road.
