BUG Review
This hostel is a bit worn around the edges but the rooms are clean and the location is unbeatable. The building is not well set up for a hostel but the staff tries hard to create an atmosphere with organised pub crawls and other activities.

Most Disgusting Hostel I Have Ever Stayed In. A Complete Hell Hole., December 11, 2007

This was the most disgusting hostel I have ever stayed in. The service was horrible, they were renovating but made a point to not make that known anywhere online, they had construction workers outside the first room window early morning looking into the 4th floor room and also had work in the halls. The doors are set to slam loud as hell when they close so that there is noise at all hours, the bathrooms were never cleaned and the showers ran cold most of the time. They switched my room and the new bed had bugs in it and the staff was rude as hell. The entire 4th floor also smelled like feet, for some reason. This place is a hell-hole and it makes me never want to go back to England.

Didn´t enjoy my stay at all, June 23, 2007

Well firstly, the location is awesome. You couldn´t ask for better in my opinon.

But everything else about this placed sucked. The staff were very rude. In freezing cold London weather I didn´t have a hot shower (not even warm) for the 3 nights I was there. The lift is a joke. I just walked the 7 floors! The rooms were old. DO NOT be fooled by the photos on Hostelbookers/hostelworld. I definately didn´t get to see those HostelArt rooms. The should be made to put a photo of what ´the real rooms´ look like on the booking sites.

Upon check in i was told I have to pay 2pound for breakfast and when I queried him about the website saying free breakfast he made up some crap and then joked with his friend in another language. So the ´free´ breakfast is actually a slice of toast that you have to line up for and the internet wasn´t working the whole time I was there.

I can go on

on the website this hostel looked fantastic- new and funky, so i was happy to pay the expensive price. upon checkin i found the staff to be unfriendly (except towards one another). the rooms were average (the beds were old and creaky) and no curtain on the window. the elevator was so slow it was better to walk up (even though i was on the 4th floor!) the breakfast was a joke...lined up for half hour to get 2 bits of bread (toaster not working?) the bathrooms were flithy...left after 1 night although had intended to stay longer...give it a miss.

I stayed in a private room at the hostel, it was small...you couldnt swing a cat (!) but it was clean and tidy, on the 7th floor so it was fairly quiet too! There was a washbasin the room and a cupboard for storage, along with a radiator - so it was very warm and cosy!

The lift worked no problem. The staff were friendly and helpful in every aspect.

I diddnt try breakfast because I wasnt up in time but I heard that it was VERY basic.

Showers were clean and hot...when I used the shower at night it was fab...not so fab when I tried it the next morning and there was no pressure whatsoever!!

Location wise the hostel is superb...theres a Harry Ramsdens fish and chip restaurant opposite, the tube is literally 1 minute walk away as are the Neon lights of Piccadilly Circus!

Its a fun hostel, they have an organised bar crawl starting in a bar called the Midas Touch which is just up the street...I think that its actually owned by the hostel.

The only negative was the lugagge storage...dont get me wrong the security for the bags was superb as it was for the whole hostel...but a long winded proccess...we queued for ages to drop our bags..and you can only leave them until 6pm...and it costs a pound! But its better than carrying them around all day!

I would definatly stay here again - just remember its a hostel not a 5 star hotel!

I tried to book a six-bed room, but b/c it was only available for 2 of the 3 nights I was there, they automatically made me stay in a 4-bed for ALL 3 nights(and therefore was forced to pay more).

Location is great, it's like a 30-sec. walk to the Tube.

Staying in a 4-bed was not conducive to meeting people... my other roommates were out all the time and I scarcely saw them-- this made a very lonely few days!

Staff only friendly to each other, but stiff and business-like toward me.

I booked a dif place to stay after I came back to London.

Ever stayed in a college/university dorm? If so, you'll feel right at home. The atmosphere is extremely laid back and the staff sets it up from the get-go.

This was my first solo trip, and I was a bit worried about finding the place with my awful sense of direction. Have no fear; Picadilly is only two stops from Victoria station and literally 1-2 minutes walk away. Super easy. Yes, everyone raves about the location. They're not joking. You could practically do cartwheels the entire way to Picadilly Circus and feel absolutely fine (other than the fact that, for some reason, you actually did these cartwheels continuously down the street!)

From the moment I stepped foot through the door I was greeted with a grin, not a cheesy "Good day, Mame" grin, but a genuine "we could be friends" grin. Upstairs (yes, the elevator worked the whole time I was there) at reception I found more friendly people who started joking around with me right away. They invited me to go out with them that night. A great start.

The rooms are basic bunk beds, but surprisingly clean. There's even a sink with a mirror, plus a full length mirror - shocking! I was on the 5th floor and had a hot shower everyday. Then again, I was always up fairly early.

If you're coming to London for a short stay, odds are you're probably not going to be spending a lot of the time at your hostel anyway. Pick it for its location. Picadilly has location and a great flirty, fun, college-feel atmosphere to boot. Traveling is about the people you meet, not the quality of the free breakfast or the thread count in your sheets. Quit analyzing and book your stay! :)

I've stayed at 3 other hostels. 2 were HI hostels in North America. They were better. Piccadilly was better than what i found in Paris. The location of the hostel is really good. It's in the heart of Piccadilly, one of many smelly places in London, across the street from a fish and chip place that is reasonable if you get the take out. Access to the underground takes less than a minute from the front door. Reception is on floor 4- in North america this is the 5th floor. Forget taking the elevator unless you wait for 10 minutes. the walk up the stairs really isn't so bad.l

the room: i stayed in a room with 10 bunks. adequate space. no chairs though so you sit on your bunk. there was a set a wooden lockers but half of them were broken and required the small locks that you use for luggage, my Dudley didn't fit. My backpack also was too big for the lockers that did work. The bed came with free sheets and blanket.

I slept OK but London was very hot at night in July with no airconditioning. My 9 roommates were all quiet. There were 2 sinks for the 10 of us. No electric outlets so if you have a cell phone to recharge you ask the people at registration to do it for you.

amenities/facilities. Having internet access in the hostel was great and it was the cheapest i found in London. 1 pound/hour or 50 pence/20 min. No kitchen. They said they had a microwave - maybe they have one now. When i stayed in late july they were renovating No kettle as advertised. No laundry facilities but there are 3 vending machines for those too lazy to hit the supermarket 3 min away. The 7th floor mens showers suck. You get cold or scalding hot water. I took my showers on the 6th. There are 110V and 220 V outlets in the bathroom for shavers only. breakfast is toast with jam and butter with coffee or tea.

maintenance/cleanliness: very good. cleaned daily. what i expected. ALso there was zero smoking here. that part was good.

security. very good. you can't enter the hostel unless you show the guy at the door your room card and he swipes it into his machine to ensure it is valid.

atmosphere: little. they have a common room but there is a tv so people are less apt to start conversations. i talked mostly with the people in my room if i saw them and they spoke English.

customer service: overall good. All quite friendly. Many people at the desk were unfamiliar with London - they couldn't answer half of my questions unfortunately.

overall, i would stay there again if i were to go to london. It isn't as good as the 2 HI hostels i've been to though.

I stay there on 2 occassions whilst doing my UK thing and one thing it has got going for it is - location. It's noisy (depending where your dorm is), Very Busy, security was good, lockers OK and I found staff cooperative and friendly. Internet was quid an hour which is not too bad. Yes, Burgerking around the corner is cheaper. Breakfast is very basic, just a bit of toast as the previous reviewers said. But I was never a big breakfast person anyway. I carry my own coffee to avoid the sludge I get in most hostels. My room was cleaned each day, showers were OK when I used them. Downside was no basic cooking gear in kitchen, ie. jug and a toaster for a late night snack. But there is a microwave! Probably too large to stow away after the 'breakfast'. Don't expect the Ritz, just sleep there and get out and have the London Experience. Oh, do take plenty of money with you. You'll need it!

We (2 girls, 2 guys) stayed there in March earlier this year and had a blast!! The people were friendly, location was great, the host was great, the breakfast sucked, but we had fun soo who cared!

All we can say is what happened? :(

We stayed there again for about 4 days before we found somewhere to live in London and tbh wouldnt recommend staying there again (cept for the location, that was great). The elevator was broke half the time we were there. (NOT fun walking 6 floors) The new staff are rude - if you dont wanna work in a hostel. Dont! Breakfast still sucked and they had a new host (should say 2 new hosts on dif nights) who dont care if you had a good time, dont stay and drink and have no fucking personality. What happened to the personality and fun at that place?

Like Lainet says below goodluck.

Ps. Does anyone no where the old host went (think her names Tranquillity) Told her wed go out on the town with her again when ew all got back but lost the email addy she gave us.
