The only thing this place has going for them is the location. Right in the middle of Piccadilly Circus and the tube station, getting to everything was extremely convienent. Other than that, do not stay here. The lift (elevator) never worked and the reception is on the 4th floor. Their bathrooms were never cleaned. (Shower slippers is a must here!!) You're lucky if you get a hot shower. No kitchen. Their free breakfast was just toast and juice. The rooms were hardly ever cleaned.

Good luck.

I only stayed for 2 nights by myself, but from what i experienced it was a cool place. Stayed in a 4 bed dorm - The guys in there were awesome and we went out both nights - they have a host that will take you out, shes a cool chick. Internet was very cheap, and showers on the 6th floor were cool. Im sure id come back if im lucky enough to be in London again!

Backpacking forever,

Matt.

I stayed at this place for two night in OCtober 2003 in a room with about 8 beds.

The good:

- the price was competitive for central London

- location enables you to walk almost everywhere easily

- room itself was clean and sufficent space for all

- building was newly renovated

- security very good

The bad

- bathroom was disgusting: a backed-up toilet flooded the mens room (there's only one per floor) and it didnt get cleaned up for the entire time I was there.

- There was even water and smell from the toilet on the hallway carpet too

- no breakfast to speak of

- no kitchen or fridge, so you can't save money by cooking

- they charge you money if you are leaving late in the day and you need to store your bags for a couple hours

- a bit impersonal and dorm-like (typical at this size of hostel)

All in all, this one is a shaky call. Newly renovated, but but given the sloppy clientele and the management's clear intention not to maintaint his place, it will very quickly get run down like very most of the other hostels out there.

I can only give this place a 2-star rating max because the toilet thing was really appalling in terms of the amout of time they just left it there without fixing - and it was reported to them early on. And it was quickly getting dirty overall due to lack of upkeep.

I'd stay here for one night if location was critical, but for a few days stay, I'd find someplace else.

First off, common sense tells you that if you are staying in a place that has common bathrooms, you should bring shower shoes (i.e. a cheap pair of flip flops from home!). If you don't, that's just gross and you deserve to catch some sort of foot fungus for being an idiot.

I stayed in a 4-person-all-girls room for a few nights in December. My complaints - the room was not cleaned unless new people were arriving. This was a problem b/c for 5 nights, the same 4 people occupied my room and the trash started to pile up. And the sink got quite nasty. The lighting in the room was bad - very dim. And for some reason the door to our room would not latch unless you pulled on it - not cool if your roommates arrive when you're not there and don't know that they are leaving your room unlocked!!! The showers sucked, get up early if you want a hot one - or take a shower in the middle of the day. There is a good one on the 7th floor that has an actual shower door (it's glass but who cares - the shower head and actual water pressure is sooo WORTH it). The noise was a little bad at times, but what do you expect with a 600 bed hostel? My room was near one of the hallway fire doors and I heard it slam constantly - but managed to get used to it. Bring earplugs if you want.

The good points - SECURITY - the guys were great about requiring 100% of the people that passed through to show their room cards. LOCATION. I can't tell you how easy it was to walk out and hop on the tube and go wherever. Also, there are many shops and eateries well within walking distance.

So yeah, I have a few complaints, but it's not like I expected it to be the Ritz-Carlton. For the money and the location, this place was a great value and I would definitely go back - next time it'll be easier b/c I'll know what to expect!

PS - The internet is expensive - go to the EasyInternet cafe around the corner @ Burger King - at least then you can save your minutes if you don't want to spend a whole hour at once on the computer.

Alright, Ill admit it, its not exactly the best place in the world, but people lets face it were backpackers who are staying in hostels not 4-star hotels. I have stayed in alot worse around London and Europe...

Would I stay there again, Yes. Would I recommend the place to other people, Definitely. Did I enjoy myself while I was there, Yes. The staff were friendly, the hostel chick (fun & cute, which always helps) took you to different pubs/clubs every night (even if I cant remember most of them), the room wasnt that bad (maybe a little cold, but shit, I thought it was winter, maybe I was wrong!).

To the person complaining about needing slippers in the shower, its a hostel that holds however many hundreds of people a swimming pool has signs saying wear slippers too, yet they dont put it on the web site, theyre just letting you know a lot of people use it and be careful! Does no-one have common sense?!? But yeah, the roof did need a clean...

The breakfast isnt worth it toast, jam, butter and tea/coffee/juice. Personally, I just slept in.

It was close to everything with clubs and places to eat all around.

Common room was ok... Big flat screen tv (cept the remote was a bit f**kd) and there was always someone to talk to in there. Even at 3 in the morning when you come back drunk!

All in all I enjoyed myself (which is what I came to do) will deffo be back in the summer!!!

Could probably do with a paint job though

I lived here along with some friends for a week and it was not a pleasant experience. The first night we got a false fire alarm at about 2 at night. Then we had another one at about 7 in the morning because the staff could not handle a toaster...

The place is dirty and I wonder if they have any cleaning personell at all. I would not recommend using their toilets since you can find better ones in restaurants, stores etc. And if you plan to take a shower, bring slippers. They even have a sign in the bathroom that says "Please wear slippers in the shower". One can wonder why that informationen is not available on their website... And do not look up when you are in the shower. The amount of mould make if look like a laboratory where they grow germs. Now I understand why there are no pictures of happy people in the shitter on their website...

If you plan to get some sleep you should not choose this place. Either its too cold because of the terrible isolation around the windows or its too hot when you turn on the radiator. And do not expect it to be quiet since you are around Piccadilly.

The only positive things are security which is good and, of course, location.

The best way to describe this place is with a quote from Warren Buffet that I found in another review: "A hostel with over 200 beds is not a hostel, it is a business"

I stayed at piccadilly and thought that the location is great, smack bam in the middle of London. The hostel its self is very quite and had too many rules. Had a good nights sleep while i stayed there. But if your in for party, piccadilly is not the hostel in London to visit.

Nice website, sounded like fun, but should have read this notice board first.

"A hostel with over 200 beds is not a hostel, it is a buisness". Warren Buffett, June 2001.

Remember that pearl and you won't be dissapointed with a 600 bed hostel. Try Astor's, Caladonian or Ashlee House, all around 100 beds.
