Okay, so there was a HUGE heat wave in England this summer and I showed up in the middle of it. My room was on the 7th floor and the LIFT did not work half the time! Imagine sightseeing all day in the heat to climb up 7 storeys to your hot room! It made me want to stay out at happy hour all night! Don't even thinking about taking a COLD shower on the 7th Flr. Mens room. Not going to happen...there was only HOT scorching water while we were there. The other part was that our key card would reset everyday and lock us out. Meaning climbing back down to reception on the 4th floor to get it fixed and back up to the 7th to lie down from the heat! I think the lift goes out of service all the time, since the out of order sign was LAMINATED! Which was a tell tale sign. The fire alarm also went off during the 4 nights I was there. That meant evacuation at 9:30 am. Our window barely opened as well. The only good thing was the location. Its in the middle of everything.

The rooms were alright. They were clean and fairly big. The common room was really dirty, gross. The internet access was down but there was was internet place around the corner. The location is excellent and makes up for the pitfalls. Another good thing is that the building secruity is good.

The only good thing besides the location is the cheap internet access, one pound for an hours use. This hostel is the worst that I have ever stayed at. I have used the reviews on this website to book all of the other hostels during my stay and this one has missed the mark in a major way. As I type this from the hostels computer, I am hearing the staff complain about their own things being stolen and the general disorganization of the place. Upon checking in I was greeted with the coldest reception and a madhouse of complaints and incompetance. The bathrooms are really scary and the blanket is equally frightening. The location might be central but cheesy enough to avoid especially if it means staying at this hostel.

I stayed here in the beginning of my trip July 2003. We spent three nights here and as the website seems very nice with pictures, don't be fooled. The common room was very messy with people who were half awake and watching television almost all the time.

Good things were the cheap internet access for an euro/hr and no timer style showers. The top bunks were much more comfortable than the top because the bottoms beds all had a lean from backpackers sitting on the sides all the time.

Breakfast was not at all worth it, unless you really kill for instant coffee and bread with butter. The location was great, close to the tube stop and the nightlife atmosphere. Hardly anything is open though during the daytime around this place. Good value since it was the cheapest place we stayed in during our time in London. Watch out for the insomniac receptionist whom you first greet at the bottom of the building, very eerie.

Location was great but overall, the experience was medicocre. Staff was friendly but did not go out of the way to make us feel welcomed. Rooms are very cramped and facilities are old and not the cleanest. The showers were dirty and there were no locks. Next time I'm in London, I will try another place. If location is the main thing, Piccadilly is the place.

This was our first hostel stay ever and we thought the place was great. The rooms are cramped, but clean, as was the showers. The common room was nice as well. The breakfast should just be skipped, but the location is phenominal. Would stay there again certainly.

You can't beat this location. It's super close to the city center, and the nightlife in the area is great. The facilities are more than adaquete. Overall, it's a really comfortable place to stay.

Well I was here again for a week in July and I am afraid to say that there had been NO improvements since the previous visit. This place still suffers from being overcrowded and chaotic. The only real plus point was that I managed to score a 4 man room (sharing with 2 of the staff, nogal) for 13.50 pounds per night, as I booked through Travelstay.com, but I see that this option is no longer available, at least it wasn't when I tried to book again the other day. A huge improvement on the previous visit when I was in a 6 man room which was always full of people.

OK, so the location is still great, but the time I stayed there in July it was incredibly noisy, and I mean STREET noise. Since you are 6 floors up, this seems a bit much and I think the narrow street and tall building must channel it up and through the open window. I agree with Ken from TN above, it was very hot and no air con (old building) but a fan would have been a good idea.

The other problems still apply : breakfast is still crap, the common room is too small. I must say that the staff were a lot more accommodating than the last time I was here, but different people and the fact that I was sleeping with two of them might have made some difference. Pity that the lift hardly worked most of the time I was there !

I think the people who give this place 5 starts only stay 1-2 nights and think its perfect. Anyone who stays longer realizes that the cracks are there to be seen; it all comes down to the old maxim that you get what you pay for.

Piccadilly is probably my least favorite hostel of the 12 I stayed at during my trip in June. That said, though, it is an adequate hostel at a cheap price.

Location 5/5: As many reviewers have said, the location is great. Piccadilly is within easy walking distance of alot of London and for things that are not close, there is easy access to Piccadilly metro station.

Atmosphere and Common Areas 3/5: There is plenty going on in the small common area... always people meeting there to go out. However, it is quite small and the hostel has a very institutional feel about it... it often felt like a place to sleep and that's it.

Rooms 3/5: The rooms were clean and they had decent sized lockers (bring your own small padlock), but the major downside was the heat. While we were there the temperature outside was very mild (around 75 F/ 25 C high temperatures), but inside the hostel it felt about 80 F/ 27 C. We couldn't figure out why (even with the windows open during the day and night) it wouldn't cool down until very late at night. I can't imagine what it would feel like there when the outside temp gets higher.

Restrooms 3/5: The restrooms are a bit suspect... moderately clean, but not great. The showers have a tendency to flood and the toilets are a bit nasty. I didn't have much problem with hot water on the 6th floor (stayed 3 nights).

Breakfast 2/5: Breakfast here is a piece of toast with some jelly and a small juice/milk/coffee. It was decent one day and horrible the next depending on who was making the toast.

Price 4/5: Cheap for London, but not all that great of a value. It's price alone makes it a place alot of people choose to stay, but it feels like they cut corners to make the price that low.

Staff 3/5: Seemed friendly, but not very involved. Equipped to handle high volume, but not personal attention.

Extras: Internet access was on sale while I was there... made it the cheapest around and an excellent connection. Definite plus although not many computers for their size (had to wait a couple times). I would rate this hostel 4/5 if the heat issue were fixed... that probably means it would be a good place to book in the fall/winter.

Let me spell it out for you. Spend one night here, then move to another hostel is a better location, Hyde Park. Why, because as I found out, you really don't want to spend every day around Piccadilly. It's like would you stay around Times Square...NO way. too noisy, unsafe and touristy.

As fo the hostel fine, reasonable price...but I got the feeling of being unloved and just a number. Seems to be a hotel that has decided to get in on the hostel thing. These reviews below are no doubt written by the crew from the hostel not real guests as they make it sound too good to be true.
