I stayed for a week in June and all in all it was a good experience. There were hot showers and clean beds, but do remember to bathe early 'cos some of the showers don't drain too well so you end up soaking in your own filth and getting drain hair wrapped around your ankles.

The breakfast was _not_ good, but it wasn't really a big deal. The staff was pleasant and helpful too. My room (on the 7th floor) had about 4 flies residing in it, but again - not a big deal.

But why I would really recommend staying there is because of the fantastic location. It's close to practically everything you need to see and do.

This place is fantastic. The staff, facilities, and location can't be beat. The rooms are confortable and clean, which is always a plus. Expect to spend some fun times in the common room. The location, of course, is in the heart of the entertainment district. No need to search for things to do when you stay here! The staff are friendly and spend time advising wayward travelers on places to go. All in all, a great place. I will definitely stay in the Piccadilly again when traveling in London.

I stayed here in early May 03 - the place is great and pretty good considering the location (and everything else that other reviewers have mentioned). A friend and I stayed a wk in a private room on the 7th floor - there was only 1 day the shower was cold which is pretty good. Yeh, breakfast is shit but there's plenty of places nearby where u can get a good feed.

The hostel got busier as we were staying there but all up it wasn't as bad as some of the others have mentioned. At the end of the day it's clean, in an excellent location and secure. Possibly a bit expensive but hey, it's London! I booked thru travelstay as well and it was cheaper. Beds were cumfy and I'll probably stay there again when I call back into london in the future. After all the other horror stories I've heard re accommodation in London, it was great to sleep off jetlag and party from a cool place. Check it out - I certainly wouldn't bag this place.

I think some people whinge too much.

This place has THE BEST LOCATION in London. You save a lot of money on travel cards, train fares, bus fairs, taxis because EVERYTHING is in walking distance. All for £15 a night.

Ok sure, breakfast isn't perfect there, but how much can you seriously expect for a bed in the heart and soul of London?

Noise wise, seriously, which idiot complains about slight street noise when they choose to stay in London's club and bar district??? Perhaps the whingers should consider staying home, or heading up to the country side for some rest and relaxation.

In my opinion, Piccadilly Hotel is by far the best hostel in London, and it was well needed. Places like Generator are overrated, scummy and noisy. At least with piccadilly, you get what you pay for!

It's clean, which is a HUGE plus, the staff are more than friendly, there are no hidden surprises in costs, there's a wide range of people staying there which makes it interesting, and it has a nice atmosphere.

Piccadilly Hotel is the shape of things to come and I hope all hostels follow in their footsteps!

I would definitely stay there again, and I will keep recommending it to my friends and fellow backpackers!

If you are going to London there is no better location than the West End. This hostel is around the corner from the piccadilly metro station as well as several bus stops. It is a short walk or metro ride to all of the theaters and the 1/2 price ticket booths.

I really enjoyed this hostel. The rooms were clean, bright and comfy. There were closets, shelving and sinks in the rooms. The duvets and pillow were thick and fluffly.

Tip: The showers on the 7th floor for some reason have no water pressure and are luke warm...walk down 2 floors to the 5th floor: there you will find nice showers with lots of hot water and good water pressure.

Don't bother with the free breakfast...so not worth it..10 minute line up in a crowded room for 2 pieces of white toast and instant coffee. There is a nice common room with couches and satellite TV to get your fix of shows from home...nice after weeks of backpacking. There is a small kitchen area with a microwave. Internet is 4pounds an hour...cheaper around the corner at the easyinternet by the burgerking.

Tip: London is very expensive to eat and hard to find cheap healthy takeout...Hop on the metro picadilly line take it 2 stops to the convent garden station...turn left and cross the street, you will see a store called Marks and Spencer: this is a huge grocery store dedicated to making single portion food...tons of friut bowls, veggie plates, salads, sandwiches and lots of really good microwave meals...everything you could want is here. You can eat like a king here for 8-10 pounds a day.

There was some street noice as this hostel is right in piccadilly square but bring ear plugs and you'll be fine.

I highly recommend this hostel and would go there again in a second, they do get busy so make sure you reserve a few days before to assure yourself a bed.

This place is one block off Piccadilly and can't be more centrally located to all the major sites in London. The staff was very friendly and accomodating even when overwhelmed by a massive rush of newcomers (an everyday occurrence). The facilities are adequate. A few one pence door stoppers could take away 90% of the noise at night. The showers are an adventure but you could always wander to another shower room (on a different floor) and find some that worked perfectly. Don't bother with the "breakfast", unless you're really starving for white bread, butter, and coffee. Weekend evenings can get a bit noisy, but no more than any other hostel, and why would you be in bed early on a weekend anyways? Fly in on a weekday if you're worried about sleeping off your jetlag. Overall, this was better than you should expect for the price.

The cracks are beginning to show in the Piccadilly Hotel. It might be a new kid on the block (in an old building, admittedly) but there are a few flaws.

First the positive aspects. You can't fault the location, its perfect. 50 metres from Piccadilly Circus. On the fringes of Soho and Theatreland, right in the heart of the West End. Brilliant. The downside to this, naturally, is that the street noise can be a bit intolerable, but frankly it wasn't too bad.

Checking-in was a pleasure, just fill out a form at the desk downstairs and then up to reception on the 4th floor - they were very efficient and got me sorted very quickly. However, there was no-one else checking in at the same time, note the comments below ! It could be a nightmare if you happen to arrive at the wrong time !

I think its on the expensive side of average price-wise. 15 pounds for a bed in a 6-person dorm, 18 pounds I think for a 4-person dorm. No additional charges, however, for things like lockers or baggage storage, which is a plus. Returnable 1 pound key deposit, for the credit card type door key. Another good plus point, security is pretty good as far as I could tell. Take your own padlock for the small lockers in the room.

Bathroom facilities very good, never had to queue for a shower, although the one day there was no hot water (aaaarrrrggggghhhhh !!). They fixed it pretty soon, however. There seemed to be plenty of cleaning staff around as well and the place always seemed well kept.

Breakfast was crap. Normal hostel standard of lousy coffee, white bread toast and nasty jam. The one morning they ran out of bread ! Pretty inexcusable. When the bread finally arrived, it turned out there was no jam ! Bad. My advice would be, forget the breakfast and go round the corner to the Stockpot in Panton Street, between the Haymarket and Oxendon St, and get the full English breakfast for 3 pounds 50. Brilliant. There are several eateries in the immediate vicinity, just about anything you can think of in the way of cuisine.

The major problem that this place has, and the one that they seriously need to address in my opinion, is that its basically too big. Too many people. Or if you like, insufficient facilities for a 600 bed hostel. I don't know how full they were, but the common room facilities are very small and the breakfast room was constantly packed. My advice would be to close down the internet cafe part of the common room (its a rip-off anyway, go round the corner to the Easyinternetcafe at Burger King, or the one opposite Charing Cross Station, and get unlimited access for 4 pounds 50 for a whole week), and thereby enlarge the common room at least. The lift constantly broke down, and several times access to the reception office was impossible. At one stage they were trying to check about 30 Latvians in and it was complete chaos. The other thing (personal gripe) is that with a place this size they could have some single sex rooms - I'd far rather share with a bunch of other guys than 5 other females, especially the one whinging Australian chick.

I don't really know what they can do to improve things, but frankly next time I'll stay somewhere smaller.

Great Location right down the block from the tube and close to all of the clubs and pubs. Very noisy in the morning so don't expect sleeping in. The keys don't work very well so sometimes you get locked out of the room. It is pretty cheap though.

Fantastic location, within walking distance of most major attractions and half a block from the Tube. Very friendly people, some who live there. Clean and new, fantastic price. I'd stay there again.

Some tips: Try to book a room on the 4th or 5th floors: hot water wasn't so good on the 6th and 7th. Lockers use small, luggage-style padlocks. There isn't a refrigerator, and kitchen facilities are really limited: don't plan on cooking for yourself here.

Stayed here for a week. The location was fantastic. If that wasn't enough the hot aussie chicks that worked on the reception were very welcoming and were quite happy to party and show U around soho. Always helpful with info and has no curfew.. which is good, as it is totally surrounded by bars.
