BUG Review
This hostel is well on the beaten path with budget travellers, and though it offers plenty of colourful charm, it is starting to show its age. It is open and airy, but the bright paint is starting to peel, and the some of the beds need to be replaced. Much of the furniture is worn out and could use some work. But the small bar/reception room is inviting and happy. Staff are extremely nice and talkative with guests, and the upbeat atmosphere almost makes you forget how dirty the showers are. Located in a residential area near the Eiffel Tower, it is a good base to explore the city, and there are quite a few bars around the corner. Its reputation and location attract a fun-loving college-aged crowd who can be found chatting in the courtyard until the wee hours of the morning.

I did my research and found this place on-line. I wish I had never heard of this hostel. They don't mention on the website that they throw you out of your room for fours hours at midday, this is completely non-negotiable. It also means you can't check in between 12 & 4 pm. Although you can leave your luggage in an unsecured lounge type area which any hostel member or passing pedestrain has access to, VERY UN-SECURE.Staff are happy to answer any questions you may have although when we asked why we weren't told about not being able to check in till after 4pm on the website we were told "I don't have time to answer your stupid questions" then refused to check us in (although booked and a booking fee paid) until we apologised, very mature of him.The twin room made a prision cell look comfortable, we had creaky bunk beds that just fitted into the room. The cold december wind howled through the 6cm gap above the door. The filthy toilet and shower were across the outside bar area so if you wanted to take a shower you had to dodge the people drinking pints to use the facilities. Although we knew of quite a few people staying there at the same time who just refused to use them as they were too dirty. The kitchen was un-usable, as filthy as the toilet!..I could not wait to leave this place which is a real shame as Paris is a fantastic place. In over three years of travelling this was truly the worst place we ever stayed. It does not deserve anybodies money.

Well, we stayed here for three days and I have a bit of advice for anyone coming. Bring earplugs unless you plan on getting drunk and passing out, which plenty of people do. Now I'm no stranger to hostels as I have been traveling for almost nine months now, and this was by far the worst. The hostel is close to the Metro which is both a blessing and a curse. The blessing should be self explanitory the curse is that your walls shake every fifteen minutes or so as the trains go by. There is no security, which is the point I wish to drive home as implimenting some would not be a problem. I have stayed in hostels that only had one key per room before, but they always required some form of identification to get it back. Here all you had to do was walk in and request a key and it was given to you. They wanted you to keep your valubles in the same place as the keys which I didn't do since I saw how easy it was to get the keys. The luggage room has no lock nor any security cammeras or lockers. The kitchen is shabby at best -- two hot plates and an oven, very few dishes and I only saw one bowl and no plates. Also if possible get a room on the top floor as I stayed there and the showers and toilets were infinitely cleaner than those that opened into the courtyard. Breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful and nice, which was redeeming. But it couldn't make up for the complete lack of security.

I actually read some pretty bad stuff about this hotel but was happily surprised! It's a little loud, but nothing eaplugs won't solve and although some people complain about dirty showers or toilets - it's a hostel! You can't be expecting potpourri. The staff is great, the people are really nice, the bar was a lot of fun and free internet was also a plus. The area around the hostel wasn't a party area but it was really nice, with lots of small stores. The metro is only 2 minutes away.

but as stated its a pretty cheap joint and it has a bar where there are people and there is beer - improtant elements if you want to meet people and possible score some flap. there is no longer a curfew so you can party your tits off all night elsewhere...if you know where...a pint will now cost you 3.90...toilets and showers are a joke but you're a tough traveller, right? breakfast is kinda lame but big boys don't cry, do they? so don't be scared, go there and have a good time - because you can!

This hostel rocks! Don't understand why people complain. It's great. I loved it. The staff are nice. They are great...Julie and Eric are hilarious and so helpful. I'm sorry that people go there expecting a four star hotel...it's cheap accomodation. And people who complain about lockout of the rooms during the day, what's that about?! You're in Paris, surely you're there to see things and not hang out in your hostel room. I will go back!

I have never seen a hostel that seemed annoyed to have people stay with them. Staff is sooo unpleasent. The location is great, rooms aren't that bad (bathroom/shower in the middle of courtyard not an attractive feature). Curfew sucks, but the bar is good and cheap!

I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights whilst going for a quick break in Paris. Experiences seem to be different for different people but I really enjoyed my stay here. The enviroment is nice - i thought the church-bell thing was pretty nice. (altho yeh it does go off EVERY hour). The fact that the hostel is part of a bar makes it really cool. Coz they generally have lock-ins every night meaning u can drink cheap booze all the time. And it really is cheap. It was 3.30 for a pint of beer. as apposed to about 8 in ya average bistro.Friendly staff, wide range of occupents, cosy feel. Yeh - do it.If you do go on my recommendation please be sure to let me know afterwards how it went for you. Oh. the breakfast doesnt exactly 'suck' like someone else said - but basically u just get a bageutte with butter/jam and coffee. thats it.still lovely tho

Ok, so this is a little late, we were in Paris in Sept of 2004, I just can't believe the hostel is as bad as the reviews. Remember a hostel is not a hotel, you get what you pay for. So here is my experience: My best friend and I stayed off and on in 3 Ducks.( total of 10 nights) We had a great time met alot of great poeple, and heard their stories of horror hostels. Ok, yes the showers could be cleaner, the room we stayed in was clean. The staff was awsome, (ok breakfast gal can be snarley) But as far as security we had no problem. We took off twice and left our bags in a room, everything was there when we returned. The metro is close, not too far from the Eiffel Tower (ok in a discription we read it said it was in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, It is a little farther than that.) The staff is really helpful and was very accomidating for us. ( we had no problem with the internet, it just takes getting used to it) I am planning on going back in Dec/Jan of this year, and can't wait to get there.

3 ducks is rad. granted, it´s not very clean, or organized. but they will show you an awesome time. the staff are fun, especially eric and luz, and the bar is pumping every night. don´t go there if you are lookin for a quiet place to sleep.
