i was recommended the 3 ducks by a girl who must've been nuts. yes, the people who stayed there were very cool, but the reception were all jackasses. they were not helpful, resourceful, or even nice. they were arrogant a**holes and they called me a sh*thead to my face. not cool at all. they ruined my whole experience in Paris, so definitely go somewhere else--ANYWHERE ELSE!

Stayed here with a group of 14 in April 2003. It is a dump. Horrible beds, filthy pillows. We were lucky that the weather was beautiful because you have to access your rooms through a courtyard and it would be terrible if it was raining. The breakfast was bread, coffee and orange juice, i wouldn't eat it though - i saw the woman serving the breakfast take out the rubbish and then start cutting the bread without even washing her hands! Im glad i stayed there with a group of people I know, i would have cried if i was on my own and had to share the dorm with strangers.Oh yeah and i saw ants on the tables while i was eating my breakfast. There is a curfew, but there are ways around it! ask nicely and they will look after you.Three weeks before i went to Paris on my own and stayed in the hostel Jules Ferry, see my review of that hostel. Its a palace in comparison, stay there - NOT here.

Some of the hostels featured in the Top Ten Famous Hostels list are truly deserving of their place. The 3 Ducks is clearly not one of them.The place looks run-down and fairly dirty. Rooms are absolutely tiny: In the 4-bed dorm I was in, it would be almost impossible to swing your arms around without hitting something. Really, really small rooms. The showers and toilets here are average.There is a 2am curfew, not something you would want in a city like Paris. The bar is also highly overrated: very cramped and there is not a very social atmosphere. One of the most annoying things about this hostel is that the bar pumps out extremely loud music until 2am every night, making it difficult for anyone in the hostel to sleep before 2am.The location is not good, with nothing to do at night in the nearby area. The Eiffel Tower is not very far away, but not very close. Besides, how many times would you want to visit it in one stay? The only thing this hostel has going for it is it's price, as it is a relatively cheap place to stay for Paris. However, the staff here are probably the laziest and rudest staff I have encountered at a hostel. They were the only rude people I met in Paris.

Smell was so bad. Very, very dirty. Should have health inspectors check it out. Noisy, too -- doors to rooms surround the open drinking area. They wouldn't let us look at the rooms before we checked in and it was late at night, so we paid. Then they wouldn't refund when we wanted to leave. It was so bad, we left and went to a hotel anyway!

If you want experience what it feels to be a rat in Paris stay at 3 Ducks. When my boyfriend and I checked in the lady at the reception asked if we wanted a double room, and then procceded to tell us that this double room used to be a room for four, but a leak started in the room so when it rains the rain is caught by the two top bunks, which is why it is now a double room. Other things to be known: the showers are cold, the breakfast sucks, the hostel is pretty much all outiside, the kitchen is disgusting (the lady at the front desk warned me that there were magits living in the salt and other random things) in the kitchen, theft seemed to be a big problem, a ten person dorm had to share one key, and in addition to all this there was this old drunk always hanging out telling stories of his misfortune in Europe. Bottom line never stay at 3 ducks.

I think the reviewers for Europe's Top 10 hostels were either paid or reviewed a different hostel. This place is overcrowded and dirty. Not a pleasant place to stay.

apparently a top 10 hostel of europe, it was far from that. squishy beds and 8 people jammed into a room. your head is so close to the person in the next bed. just uncomfortable and not clean. wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!

I stayed in this place just after new years this year and my god what a DUMP! I've stayed in many hostels before and out of all the places I've ever stayed in this place has got to be the worst. Don't be fooled by the nice looking bar at the front. Its the only nice thing about the place. The staff are rude and unhelpful. The rooms resemble a prison. They smell of piss, are damp and hot and are disgustingly dirty. Oh yeh I nearly forgot my bed was wet when I got into it. I also think I got bitten by fleas. Another thing was that if you wanna sleep any time before 4AM, good luck-its impossible! Its also v.expensive. My friends and I paid 22 for just one night. The next day we found a 1*hotel in the same area for 20 with proper beds etc. So my advice for you guys out there is only stay here if you really really have no where else to stay.

Stayed there last winter. Unlike many comments below, I found the staff accommodating. Not necessarily friendly (no such thing in northern France, or Europe for that matter if you're an American), but not rude at all.Positive: great fellow backpackers, good location, great bar, one the cheapest in Paris.Negative: no security for your stuff, long daytime lockout , squeaky beds falling apart, shower is cold (comes handy sometimes, tho <grin>), lousy 'free breakfast' (a loaf and a cup of coffee).Would I stay there again? Sure, but because of the crowd & location, not the place. The place is still a dump. A bearable one.

3 ducks is in a great spot in paris a short distance to metro and the sights.The staff are unhelpful and are more interested in getting pissed than helping you.there is next to none security wise and the showers and toilets are dirty.take jandals and always keep your receipt for your sheets as the moby lookalike will not give you your deposit back.
