I booked this hostel, and then read the reviews, and was weary about staying. Although the place is a dump.. it is in a great location, and had a bar. The rules of being quiet after 2200 are not inforced and the party and noise went untill 3:00 a.m. so not a good place to get some sleep, but with a good location, and cheep, it was o.k. for me.

This place was definitely one of my favorites in all of Europe. The hostel was close to everthing, and I never had a problem getting one of their employees to help me find my way. The place provides a party atmosphere that was hard to find anywhere else in France. Food was easy to find all I had to do was walk out to the treet. There was a metro stop less then 100 ft. away, and 3 ducks was close to everything. The curfew is not bad, and it provides the travelers with an opportunity to enjoy what the hostel has to offer. The bar and small patio provides the travelers with the chance to meet other people, exchange info., and possibly even make a love connection. I would say that this hostel is not for the people looking to go to sleep early, and wake up early. The hostel provides the fun, and if you're looking for sleep then it's better if you stay clear.

I had a good time at this hostel. Sure the beds squeeked, people got robbed and office was completely burnt out while i was there, but thats travelling for you. Dave (one of the staff members) is cool. The Boss gets grumpy - not that you can expect differently when her office gets burnt out. The kitchen is ill aquipt but the bar means that you meat heaps of people, travellers and locals. The hostel is in a convenient spot for sight seeing and groceries. Sure it could be better in places but its a hostel for 20 euros a night in the heart of one of the most expensive cities in the world. I wouldnt complain too much

i hated this hostel, it´s been one of the worst i´ve stayed at. the place was dirty, the lockout was annoying, the beds sounded like they were about to fall apart, the staff was rude. basiclly everything that everyone else who reviewed this hostel said. the bar was a problem because it meant that all kinds of weird locals would come and try to pick up the backpacker chicks. (stay far away from the bald guy and the guy with the laptop -- they´re freaks!) the kitchen was nonexistant. there´s a nice courtyard, but it was raining when i was in paris, so no one used it. i met some great people there though -- mostly because we all sat around dissing the horrible hostel. when they run out of room the staff will either send you to the aloha hostel (they´re run by the same company or something) or to their "hotel", a seedy, dirty thing where everyone gets bedbugs. pick another hostel.

The good location and the bar-like atmosphere are outweighed by many unfortunate aspects of the hostel. The staff is unfriendly. Security is non-existant. Sharing rooms are annoying. The lockout is from 11am-5pm, and the curfew is 2am without exception. It is also dirty, the beds are quite dusty. The sinks do not have soap or any method for hand drying. The noise from the courtyard can keep you awake as the flimsly doors barly muffle the noise. The matresses on the bed I slept on had quite a large indentation. This would be a cool place to stay if they did an extensive renovation: new doors with card locks; new showers and WCs, new matresses, and a place in the rooms to lock your bags. And they need to liberalize the hours policy. I do not recomend staying here until these things are in place.

I travelled here in March 2002, and found the place horrible, the staff were unfriendly, never smiled, or looked like they liked working there, no security for your bags, our room key was lost so we had no way of locking up the room, the location is too far from the centre of everything, the lock out is for almost the whole day,11-5pm, which made things very inconvient..... I wouldn't go back!

Great location, staff was pretty cool (for the most part). Pretty darn dirty, though, I and everyone around me dealt with bedbugs. Uggh. The lockout takes up most of the day, which kind of sucks if you don't want to go anywhere early or if you wanted in at any point in the afternoon. For such a long lockout they could certainly keep it cleaner.

The 3 Ducks is nice.. nice people.. nice atmosphere.. but we had a few issues... 1. Security really blows. There's absolutely no guarantee at all that your stuff is safe.. don't bring any valuables ! ( We were told there was a secure area under lock and key but to our surprise there was not .. upon pickup!). 2. The breakfasts were great! BUT the staff providing the breakfast? Never smiled.. it gave us the creeps.. they stared and frowned and were just not happy to be there at all.. creating a very negative start to the day. 3. When picking up valuables (from the supposed lockup) there should be a system where they ask for identification for the valuable being retrieved.. I asked for mine and wasn't prompted and could have easily gotten someone elses and made a run for it ! That's just bad form !

BUT on that note the place isn't that bad.. it's cozy and nice and the courtyard is pretty good :)

Personally I had a great time at 3Ducks Hostel. It was the first place I stayed after arriving in Paris, August 1999. I needed somewhere I store a huge suitcase while traveling before studying in Madrid. I bought a lock down the street at a hardware store and the hostel let me lock my suitcase to a bar in their storage room for two weeks- free!! I came back in two weeks and there it was in perfect condition. I also came back a third time to fly back to the US five months later and the staff gave me a free hat because I didn't have enough money to buy one. They were all very helpful there.

Downstairs there is a fun bar and a nice courtyard which allows you to meet other travelers and exchange information. This provided to be very helpful to me and I met a lot of people. Even though it is raining in the winter- it is still a nice place to stay- but definitely better in the summer. If you are social and like to party this is a place to go- there are also occasionally groups that venture out to other clubs in the city and leave from this hostel.
