Peace??! That's the biggest lie ever - quite the contrary - I may as well have kipped on the roadside given the noisy traffic. I appreciate this is Paris, but this was very much a 24/7 main road by a busy junction I never got to grips with in my 2 night stay, with traffic coming from all directions. It has a bar open late which is always a bonus altho shame about the awful music. The Paul Oakenfold-wannabee barman's attempt to turn the place into some nightclub went horribly wrong for me. Anyway apparently the cheapest in Paris. It was certainly cheaper than most places I drank at, Paris is definitely the most expensive city for drinking.

I stayed in a double room a few miles up in the sky somewhere so had many stairs to climb. The room was fine tho, en-suite altho no toilet, that's down the corridor.

Hostel had good location, altho as I said, very busy road. 2 metros nearby both with a few connections. Gare du Nord & Gare L'Est within walking distance too.

As for love I guess I wasn't that lucky.

This place has a bit of a bad press but I don't really understand why. The rooms are clean, there's a nice (though not cheap) bar downstairs and the staff are exceptionally polite by Parisienne standards. There are a few minor nagging aspects: the narrowness of the staircase in addition to the amount of stairs you need to climb if you're on the top floor as I was. Be prepared to literally SQUEEZE into the tiny gap for the shower! Overall, though, I loved this place: very easygoing and easy to meet fellow backpackers.

Peace and Love Hostel is located very near to Jaures Metro station, which when in Paris all you really need is a close Metro station to get around. Immediately we encountered a flaw when checking in. When booking they said it would be 21 Euros, for each person per night. We were a group of 5. They charged us 432 Euros for everything, which is 12 Euros more than promised. We got to our rooms and discovered that one of the beds was a fold-up bed if they have too many people on normal beds in a room. Thankfully we were on the first floor. The rooms are huge, but allow enough space to comfortably get around. The toilet is quite small, and so is the shower, but the shower itself was very good. We did however have a problem with it on 2 days, when it leaked and created a puddle in the actual room. Luckily the bags were saved. If you want a good night's sleep don't come here, especially in the summer. The hostel is on a main road and at night it is very loud and also very hot. The first floor room does have a balcony if you are lucky enough to get it. Some people took the fold-up beds on to it and slept outside. The people in our room were very friendly and there is a good atmosphere. We had no problems with our bags or security. The hostel has a bar, but be warned outside of happy hour, which is from 8:00-9:00 PM it is expensive. The price of a pint of Kronenbourg is 4 Euros usually and 3 during happy hour. The bar staff are extremely friendly and one advantage the hostel has is that there is no curfew, which many other hostels in Paris have. The bar closes at 2:00 AM, but the staff will let you take your drinks into your room. The neighbourhood can appear to be slightly dodgy at times. There was a fight in the bar on one night between two French people. There was also what looked like a drugs bust in the McDonald's near the hostel and the police were in the area several times. Many 'interesting' traffic situations were also thrown up with near crashes happening outside the hostel every day. Unfortunately on the first night a man who was either drunk or crazy came and sat on a bench opposite the hostel and started shouting random French words very loudly until about 3:00 AM. This doesn't appear to be a great hostel, but it is worth staying in.

please don't believe the people at the train station at gare du nord. I got to paris 2 days ago at 8 pm with no where to stay so I had to try this place. They told me there was room at the station and when I walked to the hostel (in a very bad neighborhood) they had no rooms. I would recommend somewhere closer to the river. I ended up getting a hotel my first night near st michel which is very beautiful. The three mire hostels seem very charming and i will be staying at one of them in a few days. They are near st michel, near notre dame, and the area is very charming. I think there are more hostels near st michel too. By the way, I think the people who say they like this hostel are probably those same sketchy people at the trains. They are good for one thing, since they want your money for their hostel you can ask them as many questions as you like about the trains and paris which can be very confusing, just don't believe what they say about their hostel.

Also, when i arrived at the hostel, they tried to get me to stay in a shady hotel or go to the "friends hostel" instead. I had already learned my lesson but i imagine this friends place is just as bad. GOOD HOSTELS DO NOT ADVERTISE AT TRAIN STATIONS.

This place is the worst place for staying, especially with heavy packs. It's the narrowest hostel I've ever seen and there are loads of stairs to climb, even to get to the first room. The rooms are tiny, could bearly fit into one of the showers in one room and over all not good. It would be the last place I go to.

We were in Paris in mid-September. We hadn't pre-booked so we were willing to take anything. One of the first people to shove a brochure in our face was from the Peace & Love hostel. It was very close to Le Gare de Nord and the bar at the hostel was quite good.

The bad points were that it was miles from anywhere of interest in Paris, it was very very hot, it was located on a busy corner and thus was extremely noisy all night. Next time I will get the metro to the other end of Paris and try my luck elsewhere.

the peace and love hostel is a fun place to stay. Always lots of people there (mostly americans)on the internet or having a drink. the location is awesome. right next to the metro which will take you anywhere in paris. Also within walking distance (about 30 min) from moulin rouge, and sacre coeur/montmontre (the coolest place in paris) or just take a 5 minute metro. also near the main train stations which will take you outside the city for day/weekend trips. peace and love rocks

Stayed in this hostel a couple of nights in September 2001. First time in Paris, first time travelling alone into a non english speaking country, first time sharing a room with 4 strangers (2 females and 2 males) and I don't speak any French. Steel bunk beds squeeks. First night had an attached bathroom and an attached toilet at opposite side of the dorm (very inconvenient), 2nd night I asked for a room with attached bathroom with a toilet. Everyone's friendly. The hostel is a ten minute's walk from Gare du Nord train station. Almost got pick-pocket at the Jaures station (my backpack was unzippered). Must remember to bring ear-plugs and little numeric padlocks next time I travel.

Peace and Love Hostel instantly felt like home. It has a very friendly English-speaking staff that is there to help meet all your needs. The bar is fun at night, or during the day for that matter. The rooms are clean and have a personal shower!! Laundry mat is near by. Bed sheets are offered (no pillow) and a safe area to leave your bag on check-out/check-in day is available. It is easy to get to, inexpensive, and very accommodating. The friendly atmosphere makes this hostel worth staying at. I highly reccomend it.
