I wrote a review for this hostel a while ago and am unable to find that review. I am so passionately against this hostel that I am writing again. To make a long story short, I ended up leaving in the middle of the night and opted for sleeping in the train station. This resulted in cutting my stay short by a night (or technically night and a half) and missing a day of plans.

The problem was bed bugs. I was bitten so many times I lost count. When I was going to switch beds with the other person I was traveling with, we found bugs in that bed too. While I did not get my money back for the half night of bittings, I was glad to get out of there.

The hostel staff's general attitude was to tell us that we were lucky for not having to pay for both night's stay and that we probably brought the bugs ourselves (although we didn't have problems with bugs pre or post that night).

Hostel Manager's Right of Reply

I believe this review to be untrue as we spend over €10,000 every year on pest control to prevent bed bugs and I am not aware of any case of bed bugs during 2003.

this place was right next to the train station, we paid 21 euro a night for a 3 bed room. my only complaints are that we had to change rooms once and that the breakfast was not included. But the staff was great and very helpful and the rooms were clean.

What a great city munich is and I am glad that I spent my time there at the euro youth hostel. We stayed in a private double and the room was so great that I wouldnt hesitate to go back on a non-backpacking trip and stay there. We did venture down to the dorm's bathroom and were glad that we were staying in the private though... One warning: Be very careful if you wash your clothes there. It takes forever... and they turn my friends clothes different colors; white to purple, green to blue, go figure.

Anyway, its a nice place to come back to after a day of seeing the city or a night of drinking at the Hofbrauhaus. Most of the bars that we went to close around midnight, so it we would go back to the hostel and hang out in their bar. It was a great atmosphere. We exchanged travel stories/tips with other people staying at the EYH. We actually met backpackers from other hostels there, as well.

I stayed here for a week during the Oktoberfest and had the best time of my life. Forget what you've ever read about the Oktoberfest it has to be seen to be believed.

The hostel gets 5 stars for it's location, it's bar, the general standard of the place and most importantly the unfailingly helpful and cheerful staff who seemed to keep smiling throughout what must have been a pretty stressful time of year (maybe they like the rest of the city were perpetually drunk).

Cheers.

Entering the house, I met a very friendly and helpful staff, as international as the guests, one can meet in the bar, just next door, great.

the location ist just 50 meters from the main train station, a 2 minutes walk away from the centre.

The rooms are clean, new TV's, there are also very cheap 4-5 bed rooms for the younger guests available. Great breakfast buffet.

the overall: a must to stay in Munich

I just spent what was one of the best times in my life partying at Octoberfest and staying at the Euro Youth Hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful and even hooked me up with tickets to get in to the best beer tent at the fest! All the people who work there are cool and I quickly felt at home. Because I am travelling alone I slept in one of their dorms, this turned out to be a great way to meet people to go party with. What a pleasure to take a hot shower with high pressure. Beds and linens were clean (wish that was the case here in Spain) Not to be missed! GO CANUCKS GO! Cheers, Gavin

This was the first hostel I stayed in during my time is Europe and it was by far the best. The rooms were clean, the atmosphere was friendly and geared to backpackers. Only the bathrooms were a little grimy, but not too bad. The pub crawl was a great time. I would aslo recommend Mike's Bike Tour. This is a great place to stay in Munich

EYH has it all. Close the train station (no need to take the metro or bus, or walk a long distance to get to it). Internet, BAR, breakfast, lounge area. Definately a good hostel. As for Munich, ah...what a place. Everything from the beer gardens to Mike's Bike Tours, you'll have a blast!
