This hostel is without a doubt the nicest one I stayed at over the course of 6 weeks in europe....every other hostel you stay at after this will seem poor in comparison. It was like walking into an Ikea catalogue.Stay at this Circus as opposed to the other one..I was in both and this one is newer and cleaner.The showers were clean, hot, excellent pressure...only con was they were push button.The buffet breakfast in my opinion was NOT worth 4 euros...It was big I supoose but consisted of things that most North Americans wouldn't consider breakfast...ie. deli meat, buns, cheese, lunch type products, there was cereal but only cornflakes(bland) and granola, the fruit salad was canned.....For half the price (2-3euros)you can walk across the street to a grocery store and get fruit, yogurt, juice, croissant....stuff you actually want for breakfast.Good location...across the street from metro station, although you can walk to most anything in Berlin from there. Hostel location is in what used to be east Berlin and a 10 minute walk to the TV tower which is pretty central to all the sites.Internet was 6 euro an hour, a bit pricey. Common area not too bad...a grouping of couches in the main lobby, and a great pub and bar. Really good atmosphere, felt homey. Lots of food places near by...take out food in Berlin is good, cheap, plentiful and lots of variety.A lot of walking tours meet at the hostel so it is easy to join one from there....the staff was nice and very helpful.The security is top-notch...you get a card that opens the door to your wing of whatever floor you are on and then for you bedroom as well.Rooms were amazing...nice beds, thick fluffy duvets, quiet, bedside tables with lamps, knob and hangers to hang coats/clothes ect....NO BUCK BEDS!...lots of room under your bed to put your stuff. Will fit your huge backpack.Lots of toilets, showers are private rooms with a door and changing area, big mirrors and shelfs to put your stuff on as you do you hair, brush your teeth ect...No line ups, very clean.Tip...on there website are the directions to the hostel from the different train staions...when coming into Berlin get off at Ostbanhoff station not Zoo...it is only 2 stops from alexanderplatz(where you need to take the metro from) as opposed to 8-10 from zoo...much quicker. Good idea to have some change ready for the U8(metro)...the ticket machine have an english button so easy to figure out...excellent public transport system in Berlin.

Circus is a truly amazing hostel. The location is good, with many things to do nearby at night. It is also very easy to find the hostel at it is directly across the road from a subway entrance.The only reason I wouldn't recommend someone to stay at this hostel is because it is hard to go to any other hostel after you have been 'spoilt' at the Circus. The place is incredible. The rooms are spacious, with designer furniture. Each bed has its own bedlight and drawer. The toilets are super clean and the showers are soooo good. The cafe serves great food and the breakfast, though not free, is as good a breakfast buffet you will find at a hostel. The bar is a great place to hang out at night, with a great selection of drinks. Another really good thing about this hostel is that there is a 24hr kebab stand right across the road where you can buy kebabs for only 2 euros at 5am in the morning after a night of clubbing.However, what sets this hostel above any other is the staff. They are like 5-star hotel staff. They are friendly, helpful and even remember your name. I have not met a more considerate, warm, fun and helpful buch of staff in my travels. My one and only tiny gripe with the hostel is that it can be a little tough to meet people as there is no real common room and the bar is fairly spread out. However, this clearly does not outweigh the good points of this 5-star hostel. It is so hard to go back to your average hostel once you've been to the CIrcus.

Circus II was a really nice place, the staff was great, and the rooms were really nice.. the colours gave it a great Vibe.. only bad thing was there really was not a common area to meet people. I met a few great people, but it basically consisted of 2 couches and 2 couch chairs.. there was a café and a bar (which was closed while we were there). Otherwise it was in a nice area, great Kebab stand across the street for 2euros. One of the nicer places I've stayed, really enjoyed it. Showers are clean, so is the bathroom, hot water, all you can ask for!

This hostel is just about the best you can find in Western Europe. I travelled to 11 major cities in 7 countries in January, and stayed in 10 hostels in different places. I alwayed missed this nice hostel when I arrived in a new place, and wished every hostel in Europe would be like that. This hostel is totally renovated; the facilities are modern. The security system is excellent. You get a key card for both the suite and your room. You get hot water (excellent water pressure too!) and comfortable bed. The decoration, the furnitures are new. It is just like a hotel. The staff were very helpful to us. They were friendly and patiently answered all my questions about Berlin. I will definitely stay in this hostel next time.

This place was fantastic - we stayed in the top floor apartments and couldn't believe the luxury!! Funky furniture, great kitchen & bathroom - so much room!! If there are a few of you I'd definately recommend the apartments. Found the staff very helpful, buffet breakfast was awesome, great Indian restaurant across the road (ate there 3 nights in a row!), close to transport & laundromat. Will definately go back to this place.

Oh.. to write about Circus.. what to say! Incredible place! Brand new, uber-clean, and modern. My dorm room even had a round table with four chairs, wardrobes to hang your clothes, key-card access, etc. Showers were private, hot, and spotless. Totally blew my mind and redefined what I should be expecting from hostels in Europe. The staff were fantastic! The breakfast costs 4.50 euros, but it's a magnificant spread! All you can eat buffet!! The location is great with U-bahn right outside. I would recommend Circus II over the first one because there's a happening bar downstairs with a DJ spinning tunes every night. Oh, and TWO happy hours!!! I don't know what else to say other than.. Best.. Hostel.. Ever

This hostel has an oustanding number of facilities and for those interested it can be viewed on the website. The location is great for daily and nightlife, the deco OK and the staff friendly and helpfull. However its XL dimension having teh reception and the communal area the same logic a standard hostel makes contacts, both with the staff and other travellers, difficult. So it earns the satus of a 'cheap hotel' which is not bad at all for having a big rest but doesn't quite fit the backpacker's lifestyle (almost desperate need of quick and reliable info about the place they're in and contacts for the nest one). Maybe the owners are not really aware of the importance of this and did anyway the best they could.

Definitivamente uno se lleva del Circus algunos tips de decoración, pues los cuartos están muy padres: limpios, amplios, cómodos y decorados con elementos y colores divertidos. Pero lo que de plano no es nada bueno es el perconal que a veces no es tan amable como se supondría que podrían serlo (o quizá en mi visita la mayoría de ellos estaban en sus días). La cuestión es que pocos tuvieron una cara o frase amable para mi, que en verdad llegue completamente perdida a Berlín. Molesto resultó que no respetaron la reservación que había hecho unos días antes a través de internet, así que no entiendo cuál es el propósito de esa función el website. Los precios están bien (podrían estar peor), yo no incluí desayuno porque me pareció bastante caro. De las cosas positivas es que te dan descuentos en varios restaurantes cercanos, así como en algunos museos. Mal por el internet que a pesar de que está en unas computadoras muy bonitas resulta bastante caro, mejor caminen unos pasos a la agencia de viajes que está a un lado y obtengan el servicio por un costo menor. Algo bueno: las regaderas están limpias y el chorro de agua está deliciosamente caliente.

On a 4 month trip around Europe this was one of the best places we stayed. We splurged on a top floor appartment, with a fabulous view and functional IKEA furniture - it was like a hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful and it is a great place for seeing East Berlin.

Practically a hotel. The only drawbacks are the price and the 100% non-German atmosphere/clientele (see the IKEA comment below). Nevertheless, this is a great place to indulge a little. Good doners across the street, too.
