We planned to stay at the Yellow Submarine in Budapest, but found the hotel to be dirty and noisy. When we arrived, we found that our booking had not been taken, even though my credit card details were provided a few days beforehand. We were given a room in a building a few minutes away. It was under construction, stank (had sewerage seapage out the front of the window), was dirty , noisy and I had no loo paper in the toilet. We refused to stay in the room after being in it for about 15 minutes. My passport was only given back when I claimed to have asthma and could not breathe properly in the room. We later found equally as cheap accommodation and of much better quality down the road. The hostel seemed to be full of hippy Americans and other types too stupid enough to realise that Budapest can be a dirt cheap place to stay if your willing to look around a bit. Granted, it was central.

I had a cracking time at this hostel. yeah, it wasn't the cleanest, but they did your laundry, you got big lockers, a tv, as much coffee as you can drink in the morning... and (when i was there at least) it was really friendly and lots of fun. Good location too.

We booked a triple bedroom 1 month before going there..The boy told me that the reservation was done..Well,me and my friends arrived there and HE told us that there wasn't any room for us and that we had to sleep in a dormitory with other 8-10 persons..and that if we wanted a triple bedroom we should have gone in another building just at the opposite part of the town.. Well,we have gone away from there,and we luckly find a room in the Best Hostel,which is situated just in front of the Yellow submarine hostel....That's all

I stayed here in August 2002, 3 nights. The hostel is right opposite to the main train station (Nyugati). Place was full booked, staff was nice and spoke good English. I stayed at "Penthouse" upstairs, which meant one double room and one 5-bed room, own living room, kitchen, two toilets and a shower. In the living room there were also 2 beds. It was more expensive than the dorms, but not dramatically. Bedsheets weren't that good, but clean anyway. Breakfast was included, but poor - only white bread, cornflakes, butter and jelly.Maybe I'd also give 1 star if I had stayed in the dorm rooms downstairs, but the Penthouse was nice and clean.Don't try to reserve by email! I'm travelling to Budapest again, wanted to stay at the Penthouse so I sent email 3 weeks before: no reply. So, I called there a week ago, and was told that they're full booked, my reservation nowhere. So I'm staying New Year 2003 in another hostel, a review will follow..

We made our reservations for this hostel a week before arriving. I had our print-out from the hostel staff with me just in case anything went wrong, even though I wasn't expecting to need it. Wrong! Not only was the guy at the reception a real jerk, but he said he had no record of our reservation and didn't give a crap that I showed him our reservation on paper. He was unbelievably rude, and after charging us way more than we had been told in our original reservation, he put us up in a room a couple of blocks away from the hostel, and told us breakfast wouldn't be included after all. I was really disappointed because I had read some good reviews about this hostel. But I will never stay at Yellow Submarine again, because nobody deserves to be treated like that.

Non stop downstairs to fulfill all your late night thirsts or hungers as you return from clubs and pubs. The staff are great. The cleaning lady rocks and puts up with alot.Family environment. incestuous at time. you can feel the love if you know what i mean. basically it just kicks ass stay there or regret it.
