This hostel is by far one of the best I have ever stayed in. It's clean , tidy and the staff are extremely helpful . It is also quite reasonably priced . Services there include a kitchen , common room , laundry . They also have a locker room , which is cheap.

It was a great stay and we met some very interesting people.

Having travelled a bit over the past few years, I was glad to come across some clean and efficient accomodation. I was in Ireland for two months and this hostel easily outclassed the rest.

Firstly, it is very close to every major point of interest ie pubs (!) and other attractions. The Guinness Brewery is within walking distance while all museums etc are only a 'stone throw' from the hostel.

Secondly, the staff were very helpful and efficient. Any question I had (which was a lot) was dealt with in a friendly manner. I did not recieve that 'look down the nose' expression like I did in other hostels when asking some dumb questions . I even got invited to come for drinks with some of the staff.

Thirdly, the dorms were kept spotlessly clean, although this meant being up early. But I suppose that's a good thing when you only have a short time in the country.

I would recommend this place to any one travelling to Dublin. But be sure to book in advance as it gets very busy. My first week there saw me stay in a few other hostels around Dublin as this one was booked out. Thanks to one particular member of staff I was allocated a bed. That saw the beginning of an excellent holiday.

The Four Courts Hostel is an excellent place to stay if you are visiting Dublin. Its clean and well kept and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and always ready to help. Its close to the city centre about 5min walk and all pubs and shopping streets. They also have a lot of information on tours and festivals around Ireland.

Facilities Great -- Reception Awful, June 19, 2001

Facilities-- The building was very nice, also very clean. Everything was in good order. Linen, drapes, and beds were all very nice. The shower is on a push button and has to be pushed every 20 seconds. That is annoying. Even if it were set to 60 seconds, that would be fine. Also, the force of the water in the sink was too much, it blasted out and almost splashed out onto the floor every time the sink was activated.

Reception-- The most complete and utter incompetence I have ever seen. If they had only been open one month, I could understand, but they have been open NINE months!!! Can't a better system be developed? The problem stems from every one of the employees taking bookings in a different way, and massive confusion results.

I talked to over 10 other people staying there, and EVERY ONE had a problem with their charges or reservations. A simple solution would be to just assign everyone a "booking number" that would correspond to their place in the computer. They are trying to do all the bookings just by word-of-mouth, and every employee is mis-spelling names, etc. so there is confusion and lost reservations. They don't give out any written receipt that you have paid other than a credit card receipt. The credit card receipt only states total paid, doesn't tell for how many people or what type of room or how many nights.

If this was a 20 bed hostel it would not be a problem, but I think the place has about 300 beds so there is no excuse for them doing it this way.

Also take note that there is a 2-pound per night surcharge for Friday and Saturday night. They have a safe for storing valuables for 1-pound per day. Baggage check is free if you are staying the following day. Baggage storage after you check out is 1-pound per day. Towels are 1-pound per stay. They have many different room sizes available, I would recommend staying in a room with 6 or less, although the dorms are cheaper, they have 24 people in them and that overloads the shower/bathroom too much, it is not worth the hassle.

Vending-- The soda and juice machine was out of order the entire time I stayed there. The internet computers were also out of order. I was forced to walk down to the petrol station just to get a soda. That was very inconvenient, however those are probably leased devices from another company, so I realize they may not have any control over that.

Staff-- Maybe the staff could all wear a nametag or at least a shirt that identified them as an employee, that would be helpful. All the staff were very nice and helpful, especially Julie. Everyone seemed somewhat stressed out and overworked though.

Check out-- There is a massive rush of people right at checkout time (1030 am) so if you can check out early, do so.

Breakfast-- White Toast and Tea. Boring but sufficient. It would be nice if there could be other things for a small charge like 50p? Scones, muffins, crossaints?

In conclusion, let me say that this is a clean comfortable and inexpensive place to stay, within walking distance of many sightseeing and historical spots. Just make sure you get the name of whoever does your reservations and get them to write some sort of receipt that you have paid!
