From 4 hostels in Italy, this was far the worst. Staff are unhelpful and rude. The hostel is dirty - cats walking around and in the hostel. The day before our last night, our things were tossed to another room without our notification and the staff acted like it was our fault (some of our things were missing as we noticed later). We booked 3 months in advance to get a room on the swealtering 3rd/top floor, in a small cramped room (the second was smaller). Find another hostel!

The hostel itself is surprisingly nice considering the rest of the city is a garbage dump. However, I am not a big fan of the stray-wild cats walking around outside the hostel. Unfortunately, there are some staff members (male) who are very rude and unhelpful... and they manage to do so after being interrupted from their intense games of solitaire on the computer.

I felt that the hostel was an enjoyable experience. it was located not too far from the coast which was very convenient, and the metro/train station was not far away.. although as was mentioned before the walk is much farther than it looks. I might also add that not only is it farther than it looks, you have to hike up hill to get to the top. However, I thought it was worth the walk because the view from the terasse at night is very nice and peaceful.

I thought the staff was friendly. Breakfast was horrible, but the price of the hostel was good. Did notice that the hot water did not last very long. But, it was very nice to have the toilet and shower in the room.

I was not to happy about the fact that there was a curfew, however, that made it very easy to meet other travelers because you are all stuck at the hostel together.

Overall, no real complaints. I felt the hostel was a nice escape from the disgusting and dirty city of Naples. The hostel was clean, but the city is the dirtiest I have visited in my life. If you have to come to Naples.. I would recommend this hostel.

Easily the worst hostel I've ever stayed at.

I went in late December, and the showers were freezing cold... I saw many people complaining about the lack of hot water in the evening, then again in the morning...so I'm pretty sure that it wasn't a temporary problem. They didn't even have extra blankets, so I spent all night shivering after my cold shower. All the staff could say about this problem is "well, we can't do anything about it".

Another thing about the staff -

I was sexually harassed for many hours by a staff member (if anyone from the hostel is reading this, he's the long-haired Italian 'artist' who sells his work in the streets of Napoli during the day), who kept telling me repeatedly that European men were larger (longer?) than Asian men, providing a better sexual experience. Although I kept ignoring him, hoping that he take the hint and leave our all-Japanese crowd (we were speaking in a language he didn't understand, and it was quite obvious he wasn't invited), he stayed in his position next to me and kept repeating his obscene message, hoping to have his existence acknowledged. Occasionally I would tell him to shut up and go away, but to no avail. This continued for about 2 hours.

The perverted staff member nurtured in me a strong dislike for men from Southern Italy - and I don't think the hostel staff are there for that purpose.

This hostel completely ruined my faith in the HI name.

Overall, this was one of the best hostels I've been in.

Friendly staff, lift, comfortable beds, and the bathroom inside the room was clean and complete, even with a hair dryer (unfortunately, the shower's courtains were broken, so the floor got wet, as Nikki said. But I don't think it's the same always...)

The breakfast was good to begin the day, and the common rooms were good to meet people (and the same can be said about your room: cool backpackers hang there!)

One catch: altough the location is good (quiet and far from the crazy train station), don't believe on what HI guide says. It would be "200m from the train station" if there were a funicular taking you straight from the train. You have to exit the station, turn around the corner, and walk up some 400m more.

This place has typical rude Italian staff, with all complete different standards for customer service. The rooms are basic and I was lucky enough to have been placed in a room with shower, this is a hit or miss sort of thing. The showers in the bathrooms, of course, were without curtains, and after one shower the entire bathroom is wet and the floor becomes dirty with mud and hair, despite any efforts to protect against this. At least the showers and toilet were in the room though, so what can one say. The cafeteria serves food that I would reconmend only if in dire hunger, it is mostly overpriced and horrific to eat. The location is near the Stazione Mergelina, which will carry you conviently to the city center. I would reconmend everyone see this infamous city for themselves so that they can make their own opinions about it, just be careful, near the hostel, and everwhere else in Napoli for that matter. In all, its not the worst, but by far there is much room for improvement.
