I've been travelling for about 4 months now and I have seen the good, the bad and the very ugly when it comes to hostels. This place definately has some things going for it. Downtown, close to train station/subway station and it had a kitchen. On the other hand it is in a fairly scuzy area. It was also a fairly dirty hostel, the floor was never cleaned, showers were clogged with hair and the blankets on the bed really smelled. The staff never came out and partied with us. Like some other people have said, they rarely looked up from their computer games and were fairly rude when they did. Breakfast was bad and contary to popular belief some hostels actually do serve a good breakfast. I guess it is your choice if you are willing to put up with some things in order to have the location. But there are lots of places to stay if you want something nicer.

The first thing i noticed about this hostel was its close location to the station. I was served breakfast even before i checked in which was also nice after an overnight train ride. Most hostels I have stayed at kick you out for the day, but they let you sleep in! So nice, especially since the pubcrawl doesnt get you home until really late.I also really enjoyed the walking tours they recommended. They have a kitchen ,which for people like me who are on a budget, can save some cash. Hot showers are always a bonus at cheap hostels as well and also good internet connection. No complaints about this hostel, wish i could of stayed longer! Reading through some of these negative reviews surprises me, because i didnt have any of these experiences. I guess the more you travel , the more you get to see what is good and what is bad and maybe they need to travel more, because i have stayed at some really bad hostels and this was definately not one of them...Great times and fun to stay at!

I was planning on staying in rome for a few days, wrong, try a few weeks, i had so much fun there and met so many nice people that I had to stay! Now I have been travelling for 9 months all around the world and stayed at so many hostels, there are usually a lot of annoying rules that you have to deal with i.e curfew, lockout. I came home at 4 nearly every morning from the pubcrawls and the nightguy even cooked me pasta! Thats what I call service. Plus i have never been to a hostel where the staff actually come out and get drunk with you! Cheers guys for making the end of my trip awesome, i'll be back again for sure!!!

Okay, people. (And that means you, Mr. Toronto). I am as big a fan of independant hostels as the next person, but I do demand some basic services like staff that are helpful and floors and washrooms that don't make me worry about catching some fungus. This place was dirty and the staff never looked up from their computer games. The hostel has a short lockout for cleaning, but I couldn't see any change. The place just stayed dirty. There is also no security and no locks. Sure, I had fun in Rome, saw the sights, went on pub crawls, but I could do that staying in any one of the 30 odd hostels. You don't need to stay in this dive.

I thought this was a good hostel. Yes, the doors are open. Like I'm real worried about someone stealing my clothes. The people here were awesome; I went out pub-crawling two of my four nights and had an amazing time. Definitely check out the Colosseum pub tour while you're in Rome; be warned, it involves 0 culture and maximum drinking. If you take a flyer from the "Roaming in the Dark" pub crawl, you get half off. I didn't think this hostel was dirty, either, so I have no idea what these other people were talking about. The breakfast was complete shit, but it always is, so no surprise there. If you want a sterile facility with bolted doors and washrooms hosed with chlorine, stay in a lame YHA place. If you want to have a great time, stay here.

I stayed here in May, 2002 with a friend. The other backpackers there were very friendly, but otherwise this place was terrible. The staff is totally apathetic and rude. There is no security at all. The rooms don't lock, many of the lockers don't work and the staff and the desk could care less about who is coming and going. The washrooms and showers appear never to be cleaned. You definately need shower shoes here! The rooms are no cleaner. The blankets on the bed do not appear to have been washed in the last year. Breakfast is the usual bread and jam. Not good, but not really that bad either. Bread was somewhat stale. The hostel is also located in a pretty scuzy area. Girls should probably be wary of going out alone after dark. Only good things are that the hostel is very close to the train station and it does have a kitchen.

my friends and i visited the allesandro hostel in the summer of 2002. we resrved in advance, and they were very rude to us upon arrival. the showers were okay, but the doors rarely locked. the soles of my feer turned black heree even though i wore flip-flops all the time. the floor is disgustingly dirty, and there is stuff left there by past back-packers that is never cleaned up. they did not have enough cutlery at breakfast, and the bread is stale. my friends and i shared on cereal bowl among us. the staff were always rude, except for one exception, and my friend saw onr staff member sharpening a knife in his spare time. the hostel staff never ever helpoed us, and most certainly did not party. they played computer games the entire time. if you want somewhere to stay, that is really the very basics and bare minimum, enjoy!

We stayed at this hostel and had a great time!!!! It is quite small, but a good enough size to have fun. There is a kitchen available for you to cook your own food. Also at breakfast they have bread rolls, jam, butter, juice, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and cereal. We met so many people there and went out together on a great pub crawl. I recommend the Rome(ing) Tours-In the Dark is a great one. The staff there was awesome, even came out and partied with us after work!!! Good times! Really close to the train station which is also convenient for sightseeing, etc. Definately recommend it!
