Pros: really close to main train station, no curfew, free internet connection, clean facilities, rooftop garden is really cool, lots of eating places and grocery store nearby. Cons: a bit pricey (if you get a single), hotel is located on 5th floor (but there's an elevator)

I visited the place before the high season (late March 2003) and paid 17 Euros for a dorm bed. I stayed in a room for 6 persons (3 bunk beds, actually) and shared it with 5 girls (YES, the rooms are coeducated). The room was in a flat converted into a dorm-complex. The hostel is basically a set of such flats. There were 5 rooms with alltogether 30 beds in mine: it had 2 shower cabins, 1 toilet, 2 separate shower-toilet combis and 3 wash-bowls on the corridor. This may not be enough in high season, but it was OK during my stay, when the place was about 50% full only. The place was clean. Some more hooks in the shower cabins would be definitely useful. You get a middle sized cabinet to put your stuff into it free of charge: if your backback is not very big, then all of your stuff may fit into it. Do bring your own padlock!!! If you forget, you will either have to buy one at the reception (5 Euros) or won't be able to close the cabinet. (This info is missing from the hostels web-site, which is a big minus and the main reason for not giving it 5 stars!!!). The free internet is a big plus, and I did not have to wait too much (there are 3 terminals) for it, but this may be different when the hostel is crowded. The breakfast is not included, which I don't mind. The place is a bit further away from the main sights but you have an underground statiion nearby (line B- Castro Pretorio). The neighbourhood looked safe to me.

You can't go wrong with this hostel. Great people, faciliy, and roof garden. The only negative consideration is the time it takes to travel to the cultural center of the city. (c.d. fiori area) We spent lots of time on the bus. Which was an experience. Watch your valuables. Thieves can open cargo pockets without you noticing. Bring a padlock for your locker. Big lines for the internet. But great big cold bottles of beer....... what a great city.

This hostel was great. We were in Rome in the winter and took advantage of their off-season discounts and discounts for paying in cash to get a cheap private room. It felt like we were staying in a hotel and it was only 20 euros per night, per person. Free internet, in-room sink, red comforters, big TV in the room, and-my favorite-an electronic safe in the room to lock up valuables.

This is a great place to stay; it's only a few blocks from the main Train/Metro station in Rome. I found the staff to be incredibly nice and courteous, and everything was very clean. Unfornately, I'm six foot nine and after being all through europe, this was the only hostel where I found the beds to be too small. Other than that, everything was great, including the free internet access. I would recommend, but only if you're under 6'1" ;)

After an extended visit to southern Italy we returned to Rome and stayed at the Hotel Des Artistes for three nights. Although it is certainly not a place for those who wish to be pampered, we were pleasantly surprised and pleased with our stay there. Foremost is the central location: it is withing a five minute walk of Termini and only one minute from the Castro metro stop (B-Line with direct connection to Termini - the trains run to Castro until at least 11:00). There are also any number of buses available along nearby V. Vicenza and V. Palestro. Also nearby are numerous cafes for morning coffee and a sweet and there is even a late night "convenience store" with beer, wine, and snacks directly across the street. We stayed in the hostel portion of the complex in an immaculately clean, simple room with a shared bath. I am forty and my wife is thirty-nine. We are experienced budget travelers and I urge anyone who wishes to enjoy a reasonably priced stay in this gorgeous city to give this place a try.

I stayed in four different hostels in Rome, but this was my absolute favourite. Most of the staff were so nice (-two pissed, unfriendly girls). Ask for the 5 beds dorms , they were much better than the bigger once. The roof-top terrace was a awesome place for enjoying a bottle of wine or 3 , together with great youths and backpackers from all over the world. Book this hostel NOW and you will have a GREAT stay. PROMISE!

I booked this place in advance based on the above reviews and was not disappointed. There were 5 of us and we stayed in a dorm room the first night and got our own room for the rest of our time there. Both were great value. I liked it here a lot. The reception area is really nice and the terrace, bar and common area are stylish.

The dorm rooms sleep up to 10, sheets and security lockers provided, clean bathrooms, really good standard.

They also have double rooms and we got a room for 5 with a fan, TV, sink, closet, towels and cleaning service daily. It only cost us 2 euro extra each to get the room.

There is free internet, no curfew, the terrace is open till late, there is a lift and the staff are very helpful and friendly. It is two blocks away from the station and there are heaps of restaurants and shops around.

They accept online reservations, payment is upfront on arrival. I was really impressed and had a great stay!

After spending 3 weeks staying in smelly, cramped, low-maintenance hostels througout Europe, we were like little kids in a candy store upon arriving at this place. If you have been roughing it your entire vacation to save money--stay here and you won't have to! The rooms are a steal for the price. Although, they were doing construction the whole time we were there, so I'm not sure if that was a factor in the cheap prices. Anyhow, this place has everything you could need or want. A gorgious roof garden terrace. Wonderful common room with bar, free books to read, chess, FREE Internet access. The complimentary breakfast was awesome, beautiful setting and serving staff, lots to eat. The staff was so wonderful, friendly, and helpful. The rooms are luxurious. T.V., refridgerator, great bathroom facilities. The bed was a little hard, but we let it slide as everything else here was so great. They have daily maid service, fresh towells. The decor and interior here was so nice, I don't know why this place is advertised with smelly hostels, it's like a 4-star hotel! I have no complaints. you will love this place. Stay here, and enjoy Roma!!
