Nice place to hang out and chat with other travellers, nice kitchen to cook your own meal. When I first went to my dorm room, I thought it look somewhat like a prison. Maybe it was just the empty wall and lop-sided bed that was kinda weird to sleep on cause it sinks in on one side. There were 3 bathrooms on the floor (3rd floor) and it floods because sometimes nobody cleans the uhh.. what do u call that? the drain? and there are more than 20 people sharing that 3 bathrooms. I have a key to my dorm, but I guess the lock was broken cause all I have to do is push the door a little harder and it opens without the key. Don't get me wrong, I still like the hostel, it has a cool atmosphere and stuff, free Internet access and kitchen and laundry service and etc, its just the problem with the bed and the showers where the hook to hang your clothes are outside. I don't get it.. Anyway I brought a small bag along, I sling it over the door and have it in the shower.

I really liked the Yellow Hostel. It's very close to the main train station, it has a place to do laundry, free internet access, A kitchen, and you can chill out and watch DVD's from their large selection when you need a break. It also offeres an Ok pub crawl and your not to far from some of the major attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay there again. The only down side was that there was no AC. Also the showers on the 3rd floor are the best so if your not on that floor it's worth sneaking down to clean up.

Had a great time at the Yellow Hostel near the Termini station in Rome. Be very sure not to confuse this hostel with the "Yellow House Hostel" which SUCKS! The hostel had a very helpful English speaking staff, a fully stocked kitchen and free internet! Unfortunately Yellow did not have A/C and it was really hot (it was Rome in July). There are free lockers, but bring your own locks. There are so many college age people that stay here that it gave the place a really great atmosphere. I will definitely stay there next time I'm in Rome.

We stayed at the Yellow 2 weeks ago. I had read the good reviews and booked this hostel... BIG mistake!

When we arrived they said everything was Ok with our reservation but when we came back to check in, a guy named Samuel at the Reception was less than friendly and not at all brilliant when it came to basic Math. He made a mess with our deposit, decided I had to pay twice as much, and as if that weren't enough, I then had to collect the rest of the money I was beeing overcharged from my friends to pay my bill. And to get my money back... well, no one except for Marco (the Owner) can solve problems.

When we got back to our dorm the second day, we freaked out when we couldn't find our stuff. We later discovered it had been moved to another room but no one had the courtesy to tell us.

That night at our new dorm, a girl came back from the PubCrawl totally wasted, threw up all over the room and urinated on her bed. Someone from the staff came to "clean up", yet no one cared to change the mattress. Made me wonder if my bed hadn't been through something like that already.

Showers are filled with hair and soap scum, bathrooms not terribly clean either.

The kitchen is a plus, however you have to wash your dishes, and after seeing someone else wash hers... well let's just say you better wash BEFORE you use them.

We now laugh at our experience at the Yellow, but it left much to be desired. There are many hostels in Rome, please look somewhere else because you won't enjoy your stay at the Yellow.

I stayed here last October for 5 nights.

I would endorse the second floor comment about having to pass through another dorm (and a kitchen) to reach the shower.

Basic problem with this hostel is that it is just a number of apartments into which are packed hostellers. One shower for 12+ people isn't good enough, especially when it wasn't cleaned for two days and the mat was very unpleasant within an hour of being changed ( No spares). They were advertising for a cleaner but that shouldn't have prevented the apartment and showers from being cleaned. Common areas were ok (ish).

The hotel romae across the road has a 6 bed dormitory which is much nicer. The hotel and hostel are owned by the same people. I would go for hotel romae next time.

Pros:

Free internet, kitchen(fairly large with lots of cooking utensils, pots, pans ect to cook your own food with grocery store across the street), good common room-very social, staff were nice and very social, great pub crawls running from the hostel(lots of fun), close to train staion, in a walkable distance to the sights(romes metro system sucks so this is a good thing)metal lockers big and secure, key card access to floor.

Cons:

There are good and bad rooms and good and bad floors so your experience would differ drastically depending on where you were put...the 3rd floor is the nicest and the rooms with the windows are not bad...but a bit crowded...there are rooms, however, on each floor that have no windows and I heard the 2nd floor people have to walk through one of the dorm rooms to get to the toilets. The showers were semi-clean(I suppose as clean as possible with the high traffic and with no lock out to really scrub them)....I got the impression the front desk staff takes turns on cleaning detail and no one really likes it...or cares for that matter, and as a result the cleaning is half-assed at best...It wasn't horrific or anything but not quite up to my standards for 22euros per night.

I wouldn't stay here again..there are so many hostels in Rome, I am sure I could do better....but if I had to, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, it was decent enough for a couple nights. The pictures on the web site are, as with most hostel sites, deceiving(taken when things were new at pleasing angles to downplay the run-down aspects)

I stayed in this hostel during january 2003. It is very close to the main termini train station and next to a grocery store. Good points were the kitchen and free internet. There were also free lockers upstairs but you need your own lock. The floor I stayed on had new clean showers and bathrooms and it was a very nice place. A small bar was cool.

The only bad part was that it is a good distance to all the sights in rome, and the rome metro is pretty shady. But we just walked everywhere and it turned out to be a really good time.

Awful place. Ambivalent staff and horrific regulars make this hostel one of the worst for atmosphere I've seen. Actually, I couldn't tell the guests from the staff most of the time.

Reservations are usually done incorrectly. Confirm!

The kitchen would be great, but it's always occupied by dictator-like longtermers/supermodels/lumps. Guests don't care about "fusion food feasts"...they'd rather use the kitchen.

The beds are hideous, the rooms have no curtains and the showers...argh!

And please lads, clean something! Anything!

Really the only god thing about this place was the free internet and the kitchen. The location is convenient but there are hundreds of hostals in the termini area...and if you are looking for a clean bathroom i would take a chance on another place.

After reading the reviews I thought that Yellow would be a pretty descent place to stay... so I booked it over the net for a three nights. Upon arrival it looked nice enough: the reception, kitchen and internet area looked clean and seemed to be in working order. The rooms however looked and were shocking... they're poorly lit, stains cling to the walls, the mattresses are old and well soiled with dips in the middle. But that's nothing compared to the bathroom: the shower area was covered in soap scum, there was hair all over the floor and the shower did not drain properly - accordingly, as the odours of the place suggested, washing becomes a rather infrequent event. As for the free internet: You'll get 20mins if you're lucky on there steam powered computer before some pushy would be Stalin will order you to finish. The kitchen is reasonable if you don't mind sharing it with 7 or 8 hardcore budget travellers, come hardcore budget cooks. Compared to the hostels I've stayed in in England, Germany, The US and Mexico, Yellow really just did not measure up... in all honesty you would be better off taking your 16 euros buying yourself two cheap bottles of Italian plonk and sleeping the night in the park - you would be more comfortable and at the very least the animals wouldn't make you put up with too much rot. I don't know who wrote the other reviews on this page, but something must be amiss as no one could be so blind, drunk or otherwise incapacitated to believe a hostel as ordinary as Yellow is as good as it is made out to be.
