If it takes you 3 hours to find Rambutan you are soft in the head. They give you great directions if you email them. From where the bus dropped me off, it took me an entire 5 minutes to walk there. Wow so far! If you want to bitch about anything, it is the fact that the hostel is located up on the Sacramonte hill, meaning it is a decent hike to get there. But hell, when you have as good of a view of the Alhambra as Rambutan does, the hike doesnt matter. Hangin out on their patio with the Alhambra lit up at night on the opposite hill is one thing I will never forget. I also made a reservation and had no problems with getting a bed. They put you on the terrace (for a measly 6.50 euro) if they run out of beds.. which is what happens if they are full. And the only people walking around half naked are some guys (Michel) because Granada is hot as hell. If you are offended by guys without shirts on, you have a problem. And the walk from Rambutan to the Alhambra ticket office is about 10 minutes. Take the shortcut and dont go all the way down to Plaza Nueva. Anyway, Rambutan is the most relaxed, liberal hostel I have ever come across. Dont listen to that last girl, she sounds like the type who'd be given free Cheerios and then complain she didn't get enough. The people at Rambutan are great, the food there is great. No curfew, cheap dinners and drinks. Not sure what else you could ask for.

We make our reservation and call the morning of our arrival to confirm. After walking for 3 hours trying to find the hostel, we find out that they don´t have beds even though they told us that morning we had beds. They offer us to pay half price to sleep on the terrace on the concrete. The people were walking around half naked, most were drunk or high which is consistent with the information people gave us when we asked for directions. One guy says he´ll win rock, paper, scissors to sleep under the ping pong table and that we can sleep with him. He also tried to win the shirt off of a friend. A half hour is spent looking for the phone only for it to die. The view is nice but they lie when they say it is an 8 minute walk to the Alhambra. Just be on your toes if you go there. They don´t keep reservations and it´s just plain sketchy for girls.

A little difficult to locate, this place is worth the 2 hours I spent slogging through the rain with my backpack to find it. Perched above an outcropping of residences in Granada's "Barrio Sacromonte", a neighborhood built onto the hill across from the Alhambra, this place delivers such a subtle perfection. From the balcony entrance of this little 2-story house the fabulous Alhambra spreads itself out right before you. Look to the right and see the whole of central Granada. It may be a 15-20 minute walk from the town center, but that walk is historic and beautiful in addition to just tiring. On the inside, the place is run by an extremely relaxed group of people. They had extra mattresses set up in the living room for extra patrons, but they seemed more interested in just helping these people as friends than in making money. They're not bugging you to pay ASAP either. The place has got soul. Interesting artwork on the walls, a nice little kitchen, and big comfortable well-maintained sleeping quarters with 4 beds per room, and laundry facilities on site. So spend a day at the Alhambra, and spend a day lounging on the patio looking out over it. And of course dig the bar scene and drink til whenever with no curfew.Dorm beds cost 12 euro in May 2002.

I was living in Granada this fall and a friend of mine was staying here and I ended up hanging out here a lot. The hostel is in the BEAUTIFUL Sacramonte barrio (where all the cave houses are) and has an amazing view of the Alhambra from the front porch. The staff is all young and fun, when I was there all the staff was fluent in English. Everynight they make amazing dinners and great crepes. you pay for food but its good a cheap. It's a small hostel but very homey and extremely friendly and laid back. I didn't stay in the rooms but my friend had no complaints.

It's a hike to get here, but the view is worth it. Nice hostel: small; clean; bunk beds; common areas and on-site phone, internet, laundry. Laid-back, friendly vibe. Open 24 hours; open kitchen; and you can reserve meals ahead of time, they are cheap (3 euros) and very good, with veggie options. Easy atmosphere in which to meet people and hang out!I have only one complaint. When I was there, Granada was having cold weather, and my room was unheated. I asked for an extra blanket before going to bed, but I was refused one. As a result, I couldn't sleep that night because I was too cold. Even though linen and one blanket are provided, I would suggest bringing a sleeping bag with you.
