I had read the reviews and knew this place was perhaps going to be a little noisey. Unfortunately I arrived late at night and I found the 24hr reception alluring. My first couple of nights was spent in a room next to the reception/lounge area and yes it was very noisey as you could hear the front door buzzer plus all the people drinking through the night in the lounge. Also you can hear the people on the above level walking on the noisey floor boards. Like a previous reviewer had mentioned - you can hear everything! But if you can put up with a little noise then this place offers a nice central location, close to many sites like the Picasso Museum, Las Ramblas and Placa De La Seu. There is a metro station just around the corner and there are plenty of nice tapas bars, restaurants, pubs & clubs that are within walking distance. There were plenty of showers with hot water (they didn't smell too bad) and they are one of the few places that I have come across in Spain that actually offer you a breakfast of cereal, fruit juice, coffee & tea, toast and pastries (these are packaged though!) It was clean & modern although I find their 'unique' beds which are divided by curtains, no big deal. Try and ask for a bottom bunk as climbing up the ladder to the top bunk with a heavy backpack is quite cumbersome. If you want a decent sleep I would advise you to ask them to put you on the top floor towards the back of the hostel! The staff are indeed very helpful!

I read very good reviews of this hostel on this website and was very excited about staying here. These reviews are very deceiving. I don't want to reiterate what someone else has already said, but the beds in this hostel were awful. There are probably about 20 per room and even though they are divided from each other (by sheets), you can still hear EVERYTHING!! It is mainly the worst if you have a "room" on the top bunk because you sleep on a foam matress that is on the wooden plank floor. You have to climb a narrow ladder to get up there and hoisting your bags up is nearly impossible. This hostel had a cool idea with the bed situation, but is not practical at all. The showers had good water pressure. Because of the tons of people in the hostel, we had to wait for the internet forever.

Pro's: FREE INTERNET!!, great location, really good dorm layout (you get a curtain/ wall to separate you from other people and get your own light plus two toilets in the room), good showers (except there is nowhere to put a towel or dry clothes), helpful and friendly staff, cheap (only 16.50 euros per night).

Con's: breakfast consisted of pre-packaged cakes and chocolate biscuits (but the fruit juices were great!), nowhere to put clothes/ towel when in the shower, noise from outside at night.

I was advised to stay at Gothic Point in Barcelona, and I found it beautiful. The hostel is really clean, and modern (I didn't notice any bad smell). There is free internet access and there's a great terrace with some chairs and tables, where you can go in the evening, have a beer and relax.

The staff is really helpful though some are really nice and some aren't that nice. Some dorms are big and some are not, but all of them have beds separated with wooden walls and curtains so you can have your own space. I recommend it.

I had a lot of fun in Barcelona. Gothic Point is a great place to stay. The location is great. Though the dorms are big, you have like a module of your own, where you have a locker and a little light to read.

The staff is really friendly and they allways try to help. The hostel is clean and there's a big common room, where you'll meet plenty of people from all over the world.

Not to mention the great terrace, the breakfast, free internet access,...

Although it may be in a great location, and pretty new, the hostel was awful. The showers smell of mould, really badly, the mattress i slept on had bed bugs, and i have scars on my body from scratching them, having to lift extremely heavy bags up to the top loft where your bed is , which you have to climb a ladder, and too many people in each room about 16 to a room can be extremely noisy when they return drunk and there are wooden floor boards.

I was really unimpressed with this hostel , i read the reviews before going to Barcelona and thought it was going to be great.... never again!!!

You get great privacy in the smaller dorms (a privacy curtain, reading light, night table). Showers were a bit cramped though. Free Internet. No Kitchen. Good free breakfast. A great common area to meet people. Security was not great (no locks to the rooms and lockers in the hallway only). Close to the metro and walking distance to the Ramblas. I would recommend this hostel when in Barcelona.

Firstly, Barcelona is an amazing city, an essential place to visit. Gothic Point's location is good, a short walk from the Ramblas.

The decor of the place was really attractive and the hostel's dorms were original and allowed privacy whilst sharing with others, unfortunately this meant the atmosphere wasn't as friendly as it could have been.

The staff were friendly, but the showers were dark and not great and it was quite expensive. But if you can't find anywhere that's better value it's a good place to stay.

The first thing you'll notice about the Gothic Point is the somewhat strange dorm design; each bed, or two-bed section has a curtain to offer some privacy from your fellow travellers. However you do need to be careful when dismounting down the ladder from the higher (about 8 1/2 foot high) tiers as a friend of mine discovered when he plunged to a painful landing at three o'clock in the morning! The dorms themsleves are clean, as are the shower and bath rooms, with plenty of hot water . Staff are always willing to help and have good knowledge of Barcelona. The hostel is just a short walk from the Ramblas, the main shopping boulevard and showcase for Barcelona's more eccentric art students, and is also relatively close to the port itself if you fancy a boat ride along the bay. The hostel's common room isn't terribly cosy but it's big enough to make sure you'll usually get a table - and they will allow you to bring in your own alcohol. If you're not used to dorm life yet earplugs are a very good idea , as the size of the dorms means there is also someone coming and going at night - or snoring! The worst thing about this otherwise great hostel is the breakfast - unidentifiable cereal and slimy fruit doesn't always go down too well first thing in the morning. Apart from this, the Gothic Point is a brilliant place to stay when you are visiting Barcelona.

we arrived at the hostel in the morning, they checked us in quickly, and we were taken to our room. the beds were clean, as were the floors. the only problem was that the light in the room switches itself off every liek 15 minutes. however, every bed has a little reading light of its own so it is not that bad. the bunk beds were a little low if youre on the bottom like i was, and keep bumping your head. the internet is free! however, because of this people take forever and use it a lot so sometimes the line and the waits are long because they have three computers. breakfast is not anything to write home about, but it was okay. the only problem when we stayed there during july 2002 was that there was construction going on and it woke us up the first morning but after that we just slept through it. the staff were friendly, and the common room is nice and light, with tv, books, magazines and they let you eat your own food there or in the room. the showers were dark, but warm and with good pressure. the metro is right outside the hostel, and you can walk every where else too. there are free nightclubs down by the marina which are worth visiting. there is also a nice scottish pub if you turn left out of the hostel and walk for littlerally under a minute. there is also a laundry place nearby, the ladies who work there seem a little bit psycho, but they do a good job.
