this is by far the best hostel i have stayed at. it's very clean (they clean the bathrooms Twice a day!) and painted in fun bright colors. the staff is always nice and helpful. the lounge room and kitchen are great for meeting people; there was almost always someone hanging out there: i met so many great people at this hostel, cooking dinner or just drinking the cheap wine you can buy at the desk, that i didn't want to leave. the beds are pretty comfy, and cheap at 15 euro/night for a dorm, considering it's located as close to the middle of town as you can get, in a really lively neighborhood. make sure you book in advance though, even in october they had to turn some people away. stay here! my review cannot do it justice.

Barbieri is a new, clean, small hostel in a good location. Antonio, the owner/manager, is fantastically helpful and kind (somehow he always has a smile on his dial), as are his staff. The kitchen and small TV room I found to be a great place to hang out and meet people. Unfortunately, Carlos, the resident chef, has left (so i hear), so there'll be no more deliciously filling 3.50 dinners! This is definitely the place to stay in Madrid if you want to have fun. One of the best hostels I have ever stayed at.

The Barbieri hostel is brilliant! The staff are really friendly & helpful, even if you stumble in at 4am in the morning. I´ve never had so much fun just being in a hostel, everyone that stayed there was so much fun. You can cook your own food, watch tv or just sit around chatting & drinking. Most of the major sites are within walking distance. The only problem is that it is quite small, so places seem to get booked up in advance quickly - people were getting turned away when we were there (september). It´s great. Go there!!!
