Pros:
didn't do the dorms, but the private rooms were ok & a good price for 2 to share.
Cons:
a little too disjointed, to many staff with no way of knowing who is actually working.

This hostel is safe & fairly clean with most facilities ie:
Tv/dvd room,
laundry,
snack kitchen/all day bar - closes at 1-2am depends on busyness,
10 pc's in internet room - free for 15minutes/day,
fairly clean swimming pool - not very big but a bonusdidn't here any stories on robberies in hostel, but be careful.every morning take your bedding to the laundry & they swap for clean. your choice to be dirty or not. simple system.quite a big bar with lots of seating area with a pool table & jukebox.this is very organicly run which doesn' really work as you can never tell who is working & who isn't. very annoying. (meaning travellers working for free rent - plus some non english speaking costa ricans)we were there in mid 2005 & a basic double private room cost 20$us/day. San Jose was just a hub for us to get from guat to panama, so we had no big interest in jan jose the city, but there's a few close by places to eat or drink. but be careful, heres alot of dodgy poor people lookng to mug or con you here. most people stay in the hostel and party here by night.Be warned if you english/european or australian this hostel can be full of "ye ha whooping spring break type younge americans" there loud brash arrogant & not very clever. we found an irish & a dutch couple thank gawd to escape the jocks n cheerleaders.
