The hostel is typical for an HI hostel. It's big and clean, a bit institutional, but the kitchen and common rooms are good so it's easy to socialize. It's downtown and close to public transit, but in an area where you want to be pretty careful if you're walking after dark. It's a mile or two to the areas with good nightlife.
