I booked this hostel through hostelworld.com and was sent an email to review my stay. I stayed in this hostel from the 5th-6th of June and upon submitting my review, the owner of the hostel Patrick sent me a very rude email complaining that I did not score his business high enough and told me not to come back. I was a very polite guest and the review I submitted was fair. My original review went as follows:

"Great place to stay, clean and comfortable and serves a great breakfast. Dont let the plain looking exterior/interior phase you...this is the best deal in town and the staff really does their best to make you feel welcome! I will be staying here again the next time I go to Niagara."

In response to this review, Patrick (The Lyons House owner) sent me the email below. I now recommend everyone avoid this hostel due his childish response.

Patricks (Lyons owner) Email to me: "Megan I am very disappointed by the scores you gave our hostel. The comments are nice and appreciated but the score is horrible. You've rated is a full 20 points lower than our average for the month of May. The ranking that you gave us is lower than the foulest puke smelling bed bug ridden hostels in Toronto and New York. Our guests have consistently rated us very highly and your score is completely off the mark in comparison. I would never suggest that a guest stay in a hostel rated as low as you have rated us. The character of a hostel has nothing to do with the outside of the hostel and everything to do with the quality of the experience inside it. We are consistently rated very high for character. What was wrong with security? You had your own apartment with a deadbolt as well as your locked room We live on site and have 24hour security staff, the front door is protected by a security system as well. I can only assume that you are comparing us to motels and hotels.

If you have an suggestions on how to improve our hostel I would be happy to hear them. But, please do not book with us again as your score has hurt our business and I cannot allow that. I suggest you try the other hostel in town or perhaps a cheap motel.

Regards Patrick"

This man Patrick is unbelievabley childish and unprofessional. My original review about the hostel was quite fair. I suggest that noone give this man anymore business.

Stayed here in February for 5 days. The owners are older and really friendly, its not your typical hostel, the only common area are the kitchens, if you are looking for somewhere to chill out, thats quiet and well located then you cant do any better than this place in Niagara.

The rooms were warm and cosy, the shared bathrooms were clean and just like a bathroom you would find at home. There is plenty of information available in the form of leaflets and from the owner.

The kitchen was fine, a little dated, but it had all of the facilities that you need. Its not jammed with people either because the rooms are set down 2 seperate halls...both halls have their own kitchens and bathrooms.

The location is fab, yes you are away from the stations, but you are real close to Niagara Falls itself which is the reason you visit right?

Plenty of shops and eateries are nearby at the incredibly tacky Clifton hill!

Will def stay here again on a return visit to Niagara.
