This is a former brothel and bed and breakfast that has a lot of character! I had a blast., June 19, 2007
Reviewer: iknowthesecret from Chattanooga, Tennessee

Pros: Character, the friendliness of the employees and access to mass transit.
Cons: There was a little bit of mold on the shower ceiling.

This was my first time hosteling and this far exceeded my expectations. This is a quaint mansion right in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. MARTA (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit) is only 4 blocks away. There are tons of restaurants and clubs only a couple blocks away. My friend and I (both females) felt completely safe walking back from MARTA around midnight. We didn't see any panhandlers at all around the hostel. We parked our car on the street right next to the hostel and didn't move it for 4 days (they give you a parking permit so you don't get tickets).

The bathrooms were fine and one was actually a clawfoot tub rigged with a showerhead (very old-fashioned)! However, some of the bathrooms were closed due to renovations. I have no doubt that they will be even better when the construction is done.

My friend and I were in a 6 bunk room with one of the female employees who lives onsite. We enjoyed getting to know her. The room was very clean and the window air conditioner worked very well.

The kitchen and eating area is small but worked out fine as there weren't that many people staying there at the same time as us.

Overall, I had a great time. One thing though-you have to do a lot of climbing up the stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors so hopefully you are in good shape. I got my exercise going up and down!
