Stayed here 3 nights in May of 2006. There are two buildings, one with a large well-equiped kitchen and a separate building for groups. The main building has a female dorm with about 12 bunk beds (ensuite 2 shower stalls and 2 toilet stalls). I don't know how big the male dorm room is. There is one family room but it doesn't have showers, so if you stay there, you have to walk through the dorm room to use the dorm shower. The staff member on duty was quietly friendly. Willing to answer questions and also happy to read his own book. The area is spectactular. I got some great close-up pictures of elk and had wonderful hikes all around Pt. Reyes. This hostel location is probably best if you have a car or bike. There was a guy who'd bicycled from San Francisco to the hostel and was doing bike rides during the day while the hostel was closed. He said it was a very good ride and the roads were wide enough for him. The roads looked too narrow for my comfort, but he was happy. I had a cheap rental car from the airport, so I was able to explore Pt. Reyes and the towns nearby. Restaurant food in the towns was not worth the money. If I go here again, I'll bring my own groceries and cook in the hostel's large kitchen for my breakfast & dinner, and pack a picnic for my lunch. This is one of the few hostels that still asks you to do a chore in the morning before lock out. As always, the chores are simple and just help to keep the place up. One day I swept the female dorm and emptied the trash in the room. The next day I scrubbed the shower. Another day I took the kitchen compost bucket out to the large compost bins and swept the kitchen. Not major problems. And it's nice to have a clean facility.
