An old shophouse converted into a backpackers' nest. Basic amenities, reasonably clean rooms(range dorm $8, DB $16), handled by Penang friendly retirees (chat with them for local bits).Merits :1)Not in the main Lebuh Chulia, ie. noise, traffic, crowd, back packer haven. 2)Flanked by 2 food shops, selling local and western food. Also, a porridge stall that opens for a few hours in the late pm/evening, must be good. 3)At night, around the corner, a flourishing open air food court complete with local live music, plus a small night bazaar of sorts. Or pubbing is your thing? just pop over the main Penang street; bars, pubs, local eats, take your pick. 4) A 10 min walk to Komtar and just 100 m from the bus stop at the main road. Quite convenient. You can buy bus tickets from the stalls at Prangin Mall, next to Komtar. 5)Grab your bakery from down the road, the owner is very friendly.
