BUG review
This hostel sits among 26 acres of vineyards and verdant fields in the heart of the Hunter Valley wine country. During the grape harvest (January to March) it is often full of international travellers staying here to pick grapes. The hostel is a large purpose-built cabin with nice dorms and good quality fittings. Guests mingle on the veranda and enjoy the lovely swimming pool, sauna and barbecue area. They have pizza nights and offer bike hire and winery tours. There is also a volleyball court and a funky common area/bar. Management and staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

Hostel is located only a couple of hours from Sydney. Pros- woodfire pizza's facilities (it didnt look well maintained when I was there... though I dont know anything about woodfires)
- sauna (however it broke the night I was leaving; certainly a plus/rare find in hostel accomodation. Hopefully it was something like a fuse and easily fixed)
- rooms are quite spacious with lovely colour schemes
- hostel has its own wine tasting tour; cost effective and a good way to get to know some of the other guests Neg- showers are like 1m square block so your forced to leave your belongings hanging on hooks attached to the wall or on the floor to get wet. Make sure you have plastic bags to keep your clothes and other things in. Also I hope your not shy... modesty is hard to maintain as your forced to get dressed in a small wet shower, or hope that no one is in the toilet cubicle and risk making a quick dash for it.
- I went in winter so the vinyards were dormant, will definitely have to go back in summer to see them as well as the local gardens which people spoke highly of.
Visited Hunter Valley YHA as part of a two day tour offered by YHA, left Sydney early Saturday arrived at YHA (spotless new rooms and communal facilities) had a cup of tea before off on a wine tour that the Hunter Valley Hostel runs. Great time round 4 vineyards and then tea of wood fired pizza, and trip to pub only a few hundred yards away. Bikes free to hire out so out tried some cycling on the Sunday (area was much hillier than it looked from a car). Staff exceptionally friendly and hostel had a great atmosphere. There is a pool and a sauna but was a bit cold in May to try those out.
