About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

Advertised as a working hostel I came here hoping to find work that would cover my costs and let me save up some money for more travel. The staff were first just rude, and then gave me a job orange picking, well fine I though. The job that I got didn't even pay enough to cover my rent for the week was there, the other backpackers told me that they were all in the same boat, nobody could make any money after working all day every day in an Australian summer! The rooms are overpriced for what they are, squalid dorms containing around 15 people. My advice is to stay away from this place at all costs, as the graffiti on the dorm walls says, "I'd rather die than spend another night in Griffith!".

As a rule of thumb there are not many double rooms for couples and offten rooms are arranged based on the amount of people staying there. So Australian couples are generally put in the caravan park. Work is generally reserved for backpackers as it is harder for them to find work as offten they are only staying for short time periods. There have been quite a few Aussies that have stayed there but generally they either cause problems such as drugs, excessive drinking, or other assorted problems. My reccomendation to aussies is to try prioneer park as they have private rooms and the sence is way smaller. This is quite a busy hostel all year and room and work is generally resverved for backpackers. As for rides to and from work they try thier best to get you there on time but with 40 odd people all going to about different 20 jobs all over the place and generally all at the same time it is hard and offten you are 10-15 late. The employers do understand and they do only have two vehicles for transport. I didn't have a problem with bed bugs and generally enjoyed my time there.

I went there to work. I had a job straight away. I met so many great people. What is good is that it s a working hostel which means people stays at least a month or more so you have time to get to know them a bit. Many come back there again. Rooms were never locked, never had anything stolen. The premises are just ok, showers are sometimes cold and in winter there s only a small heater. think of taking a good duna in winter. Didn t have any pb with bed bugs, there were australian staying at the hostels (unlike what was said by others). The four stars are definitly for the atmosphere.

i never knew that hostel where only for people from overseas, is the first time i couldt stay there being a australian. the hostel organisation is compleet bollox or not even there, on some mysterious reson it is a member of VIP BAckpackers chian, so that gives you an idea how low the standards are for them.

well, it looked good for work, but if your an australian citizen your not alowed in the hostel, the organise something else for you then a caravan with beds of a meter by 50 CM in it so i like to know how you can work on a farm and sleep on that sized bed. i am traveling for 15 months in oz now and i have never seen that australians are not part of the international happening. Me and me misses didn't sleep for a week and are both ill now, and from storries the hostel dirty and filled up with bedbugs and other bitting crap. Don't stay there if you an aussie and the have compleet non organisation to arange work, 2 hour late pick up for work.me and me misses

Griffith is a place in which Backpackers can find work all year round but if for the slitest reason when you arrive there is no work Ceaser will try his hardest to find you some. Because fo the Nature of the work in Griffith ie. working in a nursery, Orange packing, and assorted other seasonal work the residents seem to form an extended family everyone well mostly everyone is more than welcome to offer you a drink and if you arrive on the weekend you are in for a special treat most of the backpackers are up late and are ready to party so if you are up for it come and join in they won't bite ! My time in Griffith was great I met tones of peopel and even picked up a bit of other languages. Just tell ceaser that you read Justin (his adpoted sons review on the net) and I am sure he can tell you a bunch of stuff about the Hostle and how much funn we had there! well all I can say now is go to Griffth one of the best places to work in Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
