BUG review
Chilli's Backpackers is conveniently located next to the Greyhound transit centre, and lots of plants green up the exterior of the building. There are nice open-air common areas on the balcony and the dorms are clean and in fairly good shape with proper inner-spring mattresses, but the overall maintenance could be better (especially the bathrooms). Like most hostels in Darwin, there is internet access plus a kitchen and laundry facilities. There are two spa pools on the rear deck and guests can cool down in the swimming pool at Youth Shack, just up the road.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

Why has this place got such a good rating? The cleanliness is average. Small rooms, awful beds with rubber mattresses (nice), tiny showers. And you need a deposit for everything including cutlery, plates, and even pots, pans & cooking utensils! That's about $50 in deposits. Oh and the staff seem a bit indifferent.Plus as of 1st July the rates go up by 25%! On the positive side though, it does have good sized lockers in the rooms and if you want to be in the centre of things, this is a good place (which also makes it a bit noisey at nights if you keep the dorm window open).

Rather clean place - had a very spacious common space/laundry/kitchen/TV room. The spa, on the other side of the building can be rather crowded when the sun is out. Located @ a good spot for everything - 24hrs Coles is just next door and everything else within 5-10 minutes walking distance. Staff is reasonably courteous.

I never thought Darwin would be so magnetic. I planned to stay for seven days, but Nomads kept me for almost ten times that. The best rooms, spa and most of all atmosphere in the city - do no wrong.
