BUG review
Gecko Lodge is a small and fairly worn-out hostel with 30 dorm-beds to offer. It's not the cleanest hostel in Darwin. However, there's certainly a laid-back atmosphere with a family-feel in the mellow hostel with comfy old sofas, a small kitchen and accompanying seating area that makes it an easy place to socialise with fellow travellers. The maintenance could certainly be better, but to some the pancake breakfast might make up for it. Outdoors there is a nice swimming pool and barbecue area. Bicycles are for rent for just $12 a day.

Friendly but new and somewhat incompetent staff and horrible management. The reception is only open from 8 AM until 7 PM, this is not enough. Internet is available in the reception on the hostel computer at low cost but only during office hours. The rooms are fine but the common areas including the kitchen are horrible, dirty and worn down. The kitchen is way to small for such a hostel and has almost no cups or cutlery in the cupboards and very limited storage space. It is also filthy and there is only a small sink with a very old sponge for doing your dishes, which no one does. It is gross! Toilettes and showers are quite OK and the pool is small but nice and clean. Good coffee and good all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. All in all, a nice stay in an old Queenslander; and with some improvements it would be priceworthy as well.

The good :1. Sue and Marcel (the owners) are friendly. You will feel comfortable to be there.2. Free delicious pancakes for breakfast. You can eat as much as you can.The bad:1. Old hostel2. Creaky bed3. Far from the city centre. You have to walk for at least 30 minutes to the mall.4. Price in high season is expensive when compared with the quality of the hostel.
