BUG review
This hostel consists of five cabins set around tropical gardens, each themed on a different country. The grounds include a beautiful swimming pool with palm trees and lush gardens. The cabins are spotless inside as are the en suite bathrooms. In the open-air common room there are new couches, a TV and pool table and an internet café. The kitchen is nothing special but it is kept clean. There is also a meditation area behind the common room.

Spent 2 nights there and would definitely go back! I enjoyed my room (with en-suite shower-room), the swimming-pool, the kitchen (with free coffee and tea). They can book for you cheap surf lessons or scooterroo tour (which I did and loved!)

1770 Southern Cross Backpackers is a very laid back, family-owned hostel with welcoming and helpful staff.
The rooms are cleaned everyday and the linen is nicely dry cleaned. There is a great hang out area with heaps
of free dvds. Free shuttle bus to town every two hours and lovely surf, kayak, and adventure tours can be booked
at reception. Beautiful landscaping with a great camp fire for those who like to gather around and play some tunes.
Pros:
Beautiful hostel/property, VERY clean, friendly staff
Cons:
Slow internet connection

This is an awesome hostel, set on a beautiful piece of land! The cabins are spread out around the property and most have en suite bathrooms. This is a VERY clean hostel, as the rooms and common areas are cleaned daily. It's the only hostel I've stayed in that I've showered without flipflops The staff are really friendly and helpful. Loved the swimming pool, and the free breakfast was an added bonus! A great place to go and relax. Would definitely recommend this chill hostel to others!

We had the best time ever at this hostel!!! the place is set out on a huge property, the cabins are all seperate- so clean! and named after countries!! the rooms are keyless but they have a safe at reception! we had our own ensuite, tv,dvd and fridge- our double room was set amoungst palm trees that looked over a small creek. We never once felt unsafe, insecure, unwelcome- the staff are amazing! they can not do more for you when it comes to tours or information about the town. we planned to stay 2 days and stayed a week!!! there are campfires and theme nights during the week and gorgeous swimming pool- the property is so big you can chill out, and party or pretty much do whatever you want. If you get a chance stay for a 'sunday session' the staff take you down the beach for soccer, cricket- surfing & swimming! few chilled out beers and back to the hostel for a bbq. Its mostly FREE- pay for your snags tho...
We arrived on the premier at midnight and the bus driver took us to our room- you just check in the next morning. We did our research- its not the hostel that charges you- its a private shuttle company!!! and the $10 day stay includes luggage room hire, internet and use of facilities all day- not bad considering we were there again until midnight on our checkout day.
I would totally reccommend this hostel!! 10 out of 10!!!!!
Very dissapointed and wouldn't recommend 22 August 2009
Pros:
the facilities are quite good and it is a beautiful place
Cons:
No security no keys to rooms and no lockers, very far from town, very bad service

As an Aussie travelling I have stayed at countless hostels and this was the worst. When we first got there we thought it was a good place, it was really nice. We had booked into a double room over the phone, which on the internet said EVERY double had a TV ,and was set in a private setting and looked amazing. However when we got to our room it was far from amazing, they had put us in a dorm with a double bed in it, with no tv and in the very middle of the resort! It was the complete opposite to what we belived we had booked. The manager would not come and talk to us about it and the staff were rude and unproffesional! It was a complete let down and waste of money. It wasnt until after we had paid at check-in, the girl on reception told us its a keyless backpackers meaning nothing is locked up and there are no lockers! You cant get internet after 7.30pm, they also advertised home style dinners for $6.00 but there was no such thing! Its out of town and you have to wait a long time for the bus or walk for kms!! Even though the setting was beautiful I wouldn't reccomend it to annyone as its completely bad service and gives false immpressions.
