BUG review
This hostel has impeccably clean air-conditioned dorms with comfortable beds, new tile flooring and en suite bathrooms. The large bar/common area has pool tables, a projection screen and a good swimming pool. There is a good atmosphere and every night there are different events in the bar and guests get a free evening meal. The hostel also offers free shuttle buses, an internet café and a tour desk. However the hostel is lacking in security and the reception staff can be a bit careless.

Stayed in a twin room, which was placed inside of a dorm room - not really what you'd expect from a twin room. The hostel has kinda a dull atmosphere and the location is not that great either. It's not horrible or something like that - it's just....there's so many better hostels out there.
Really friendly staff, great atmosphere, cool bar. 12 September 2006
Pros:
All the staff are really helpful!
Cons:
The bar shuts too early!!!!

I loved my stay at the Cairns Beach House, met some really good friends. The bar is wicked, free meal at night and the chance to pick from huge menu. The rooms were clean and beds were comfy. The best place to stay in Cairns!!
Pros:

The staff is nice, there is a courtesy bus to town and they pick you up at the airport BUT:
- The ad said dorms with less than 3 beds and no bunk but I ended in a 9-bed dorm but bunks.
- no curtains in the first dorm I stayed
- bugs in the dorm and the kitchen
- filthy kitchen, 1 toaster for everybody, 1 tea towel (always wet)
- hole in the bathroom ceiling...I wrote a negative comment on their comment book and they simply took the page away!
Pros:
Very good atmosphere & opportunity to work for accomodation
Cons:
Very rude staff, bugs everywhere, filthy kitchen

Overall had a wicked time here, as were some great people staying at the time. Though one of the receptionists/ managers - Joel - was extremely rude and nasty. DO NOT TRUST. Facilities are ok - sky tv and a pool area, though the bedrooms are cramped and swarming with cockroaches and ants. Kitchen is too small. Free bus shuttle into town at certain times.

The room was dirty. Filthy. There were little insects everywhere. Like tiny ants crawling all over the walls. The smell was awful. There was water on the floor in the room. The bathroom was full with mould and the floor was crusty with old hair and dust that had not been cleaned for years it seems. There were old things from past guests on the window ledge (peanut butter, cigarette butts in old camera thing, etc). The room was not airconditioned and only had ceiling fans. The 6 people room (3 on one side, a door to separate, 3 on the other side and the bathroom separated with another door) so quite spacious and no bunk beds. I saw bugs in the kitchen also crawling near the dry food storage area. The kitchen was alright, many ranges and also ovens and a big island to prepare food on. The TV room is in an old garage and was spacious (and while I was there they got new couches so was comfy). The pool area was nice and the water of the salted water pool was hotter than the air outside though! Like a bath almost! Maybe it was because it was the end of the day. The staff was friendly but not at the reception desk so I had to wait often for someone to help me (they hung out in the office behind reception). The bus shuttle in the city and pick-up from bus station was right on schedule. A taxi to the airport cost me 12$. A bit out of the town centre, 20 minutes walk at least, but there is a supermarket (IGA) right near the hostel. I would not stay here again although I met a lot of friendly backpackers the hostel was just too dirty for me.

I received 2 free nights at the Beach House after booking a package at Wicked Travel, Byron Bay, so I was very apprehensive about what I would get. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. The 6-bed dorms are split into two connected 3-person dorms with an ensuite and basic kitchen.I stayed extra nights in the twin rooms which were fairly large. My only complaint was the courtesy bus, which is very unreliable, but the walk is only 25 mins. Accommodation includes a free meal which wasn't great, but the meal ugrade was much better. There is also a large kitchen and an added bonus of free bag storage. Although it is a bit further out of town, for the price it's definitely worth staying here.

Been there for about 2 weeks with wife using $40 single room with 2 beds (we are 60), great beer garden, kitchen, laundry and quiet! In-house food ($8.50-$9.50) to fill any one. Neat super market next door for all needs, also bus stop and nice rips at pedros pizza.Eazy walk to town centre (25 min), never used the bus.Free pick up and return from railway/airport.Best priced offers of trips to join with great diversity.Beware of cairn's car rental companies and their contracts!
