BUG review
This hostel is conveniently located near shops with a pharmacy and store on-site as well. Dorms here are large and simple, each with eight beds. The large swimming pool is popular with guests during the day and there is a volleyball court and barbecue area nearby. It has a livelier atmosphere than the other hostels in Cape Trib with a good restaurant and bar with ample seating, a pool table, games and music. There is also a small communal kitchen, laundry, internet access and reception can book any tours in the area.

Had a great time in the week that i stayed there.the staff were friendly and most helpfull. The beer was no more expensive than in my local pub in adelaide.i met so many people from all over the world, who were also most friendly. The whingers should probably go to disneyland, stay in a five star and watch a movie about the Daintree.Ian from Adelaide.

I stayed here for three nights. Cape Trib is awesome.....PK's Jungle Village is........not!

I don't really know where to begin. You get into reception, it all seems very nice....it isn't till you get out the back and see the dorms that the hideous reality sinks in!!!

The accomodation is in a series of huts. Ours was very dirty. It was supposed to be a 6 bed, but they'd managed to squeeze 7 in so it was really cramped. The fan, while not doing a great job of cooling the room was insanely noisy, and every single bed squeaked and creaked. There were huge cracks in the walls for the wildlife to scuttle in and out of. We had a lot of geckos and insects running about, which, in the tropics, you expect. NEXT DOOR HAD MICE RUNNING IN AND OUT. It was basically rotting away.

The showers are fine, but there is one bathroom block for the whole site and it is miles away from all the accomodation (takes several minutes to walk there) and not well lit at night. And of course, being in the tropics, when it rains it RAINS....so if you want to go to the loo or clean your teeth or whatever at night, you have to get dressed find your jacket etc etc. Or get soaked.

Showers are ok and there are enough of them, but the block is like the rest of the place run down and old.

The kitchen is by far the worst part. Its open air. Everything in it is old and dirty..... but the worst thing by far is that you have to rent dishes from the bar (not unheard of) and they are REALLY EXPENSIVE. To cook a really basic meal, I had to pay a $50 deposit, the frying pan they gave me was saucer-sized and dented, they had no wooden spoons, spatulas or anything to stir with, and when I opened the tupperware box of dishes they gave me it stank of mould and mould was actually growing on the lid. When I complained about it, the guy just said 'oh, some people don't dry things properly when they put them back...'

Funny that.....since they don't provide teatowels!!!

The bar is ok. The food is disgusting and overpriced (I guess thats why they charge so much for the dishes - so people will buy their horrible food), but the atmosphere is quite fun. Altogether though the hostel is dirty, overpriced and uncomfortable. They get away with it, because its in Cape Trib....they wouldn't anywhere else.

Take my advice if you are going up there. Book early and stay somewhere else!

This has to be one of the best hostels I have been to the staff were super freindly and the location on the beach was brilliant. The board walks around the hostel are really good with a lot of wild life I have never seen before. The hostel isnt alcohol friendly but theres a bottle shop 15mins down the road and its quite easy to sneak it into you room, the bar is good although it didnt seem to stay open late enough, the staff couldnt of been better if they tried they were very friendly and helpful with all aspects of our stay, well if you are going to cape trib this is your place

What a fantastic place. Friendly staff, great location, buzzing atmosphere. Food is a bargain too with massive, massive portions. Twin room with ensuite worth the extra. Definately going back..... well thats if I ever manage to pay my credit cards off. Olly

This was a great little place to relax and yet still enjoy yourself.

The staff were friendly and helpful to us, and booked us on a great dive trip (only six people in total). The double rooms were comfortable and clean.

The only detraction from the place is the relative expense, and the limited amount of things to do after a few days.

Everything is over priced and there is absolutly nothing to do here. But the double rooms were good and clean. We were more than happy to leave after one night.

PK's has an unbeatable location, at one side is the beach, and the other the rainforest. I stayed their in their coldest month, where the temperature was 27, so I can imagine that sleeping in a 8-person bungalow with 2 fans in the summer is not pleasant.

The bar is extremely lively and has a good atmosphere. The food (and Internet) there is quite expensive for small portions, but unfortunately the nearest supermarket is 1.5km away from all of the hostels and the kitchen was usually pretty busy.

Watch out for the spiders, lizards and snakes. I had a shower with a python on the rafter above my head! Overall, a good place to stay.

Everything is so expensive, taking for granted the fact that there are not many shops in the area. The double rooms are so stuffy and the fan does little to circulate the air. The bed was unbelievably squeeky, and everytime we moved in our sleep, we were both awakened. Not to mention, the vast majority of the staff are incredibly unfriendly. This place is really not worth the money.

Not so much a hostel as a collection of huts minutes away from the beach and the rainforest. Great atmosphere with parties every night. I thought this was the highlight of the whole east coast. Also has swimming pool and spiders the size of footballs roaming everywhere.
