BUG review
This place caters exclusively to working backpackers and they arrange jobs and provide free transport to and from work. The hostel has a large 12-bed dormitory and several small "cubes" - small two-bed dorms with colourful aluminium walls. The dorms get messy and the kitchen needs to be better maintained; but it has a swimming pool/barbecue area, a nice TV lounge with a pool table, a small bar at reception and a shop. It would be a good place to stay if you are working in the area.

Stopped here in 2002, stayed for 6 weeks picking pineapples. The work is grand, doesn't suit some whingers though :) Hot and sweaty at night (during december) from lack of good ventilation but you get used to it all. You won't make your fortune, but you get to eat fresh fruit every day. The two lads running the place are sound, laid back blokes. Gives you the time to make some proper mates too. I wouldn't pick fruit anywhere else.

I was here in '97. It seems a long time ago now, alas I remember those early wake ups each morning to work on the farms. Mainly did banana's, also Melon's etc. A farming community, so plenty of work to be had and a good learning experience for all.

I was travelling around Aussie and like most was in the need for some work. I hooked up with Cardwell Back Packers and was lucky enough to start work the next day. I worked on Banana's(yes it is a back breaker, gotta love humping those big ones) In that regard it was good and the people that I met working and living there were great. The hostel aint the flashest in the world but you get over it. All in all I spent three months there and really enjoyed my time. If you're up to sleeping in a room that echo's like anything with the clashing of kitchen pots and drunk room mates next door then give this place a go.
