BUG review
For an old house, Gladstone Backpackers has surprisingly modern furnished dorms and well maintained facilities. These include a swimming pool, barbecue and laundry. The kitchen is a bit old, but there are plans for a renovation. The hostel is within walking distance to shops and nightlife, and they organise trips to Heron and Curtis Islands. There is internet, including wireless, at $4 per hour. Though it has a very quiet atmosphere, staff are very friendly and they make you feel at home.

In a residential area, a 6-7min walk from downtown, but a bit closer to the wharf (good if you are booking an island trip). A good lay-over spot, if you -- like me -- were force to leave the Town of 1770 on a 8pm greyhound bus, and want to arrvie at a hostel at a decent hour. The town itself isn't much, but there are a few activites around, including botanical gardens and a winery a bus ride to the south. The staff -- the owner & a helper -- are both superfriendly, and the rooms and cosy, making you feel right at home! He stores stuff in a secure locker for you during the day, and helps with any directions ect., you might need. The kitchen is pretty good, as are most things, if a little worn. The showers are quite tiny, and sparce, but it didn't bother me too much. Not too bad at all.
